WinLED is a simple application intended to track the hard drive activities on PC. It gives constant notifications in simple manner right from your system tray.

WinLED uses color coding for the two types of activity, namely read and write. Thus, when the disk is accessed for writing purposes, the icon will become red, while for reading data, the icon will blink green. Unlike other products of this sort WinLED avoids the configurability of any system parameters but only shows the results of performance counter 'Physical Disk'. This has the advantage that it also works in multi-user environments even if Windows has to deal with various users and languages in roaming mode.

Thus, it is possible to estimate at a glance whether the computer is really busy with background activities or is in idle. Analysis tools, which show a lot more details on the HDD activities, can not and should not replace this small free tool.

The perfect HDD activity indicator!

Pros
Installs like a charm and accurately shows R/W activity in realtime, as if you were watching the drive LED on your PC. Great for laptops, or desktop PC's where the HDD LED is in some obscure location.
Cons
Nothing bad about WinLED to report.

Fast and easy download. Install is quick. uses very little resources. It simply works and is free!

Summary
I love my computer but it has no HD LED indicator light to show read and write activity. This little app solved that problem by placing a led on my system tray that blinks green and red when my HD is working. Looks very real and is just what I needed to finish my otherwise perfect computer! I tried all the others and this one is best for my uses and looks more real than the others.
