Automatic wallpaper changers are a good idea in theory, but many of them don't work out too well in practice; they often hog resources, cause desktop display problems, and generally wreak havoc. But then there's Wally. This is a wallpaper changer with plenty of features and no functional problems whatsoever. It may have single-handedly brought us around to the idea of changing desktop wallpapers.

Wally appears as an icon in the System Tray, and right-clicking on it brings up a settings menu. Wally can display images that you have stored on your computer, but the really cool thing about it is that it can access images from deviantART, Vladstudio, Google, SmugMug, Picasa, Buzznet, Photobucket, Ipernity, Panoramio, Yahoo, and Flickr. For any of these providers, simply enter your desired keywords, and Wally will select matching images to display on your desktop. Of course, given the nature of these sites, the quality of the images will vary widely. We entered the keyword "kitten" in Picasa, and while the first image returned was a professional-looking shot of a kitten and a puppy cuddling, the next was a snapshot of some random man reclining on a sofa with a kitten in one hand and a cigarette in the other. But part of the fun of Wally is sampling the wide variety of images that people choose to share on the Internet, for better or worse. The program itself has plenty of useful settings; you can select the interval at which the images change, the border color, and the image position on the desktop, and there are plenty of other options for controlling how the program selects and displays images. We didn't see a Help file anywhere, but we didn't really need one, either. Overall, we think that Wally is easy to use and a lot of fun, and we recommend it.

Wally installs politely but leaves a Start menu icon behind upon removal.

Works well, few flaws, no tech support

Sometimes wont change the wallpaper on schedule or manually Google searches don't work Tech support is non-existent.
Summary
As long as you don't need Google or tech support, this is a good app to use to change wallpaper. For most sites, it just works. For Google, not so much.

Pros
Handles pictures in sub-directories of the one specified. Cycles through the pictures in sequential order. Remembers where it was when the system is shut down or rebooted. The source of the picture (file name) can be obtained through the menu.
Cons
The one feature I would have liked to have was the ability to put the file name that the picture came from alone the top of the screen.
Summary
I was using WEBSHOTS to change the background of the display on my computer. Webshots have "upgraded" to SMILE, which, as far as I can see, is totally useless for what I wanted it to do. As a result, I have converted to WALLY, which is doing nearly everything I wanted and is actually easier to use. For my sue, WALLY is a great program and it's freeware. GREAT - Thank You

You can (like every 10 seconds) set frequent pix changes... or have the same one up all day.....and no one will care a whit.
Cons
I can't think of a con to be honest . I use it everyday as my screensaver and it boots when i start-up my OS.

Really only tried Wally because someone recommended it in comments on another wallpaper changer - AWC. I see the same person has given Wally 5* here TWICE and only gave AWC 1*. That's the wrong way round - just get AWC though it's not free :-)

Works great with Windows 7, handles different graphics formats with ease, even adjusts background color to match.

Needs systray controls in the worst way. Even a simple "Next file/Previous File" would help a lot.
