• Very neat software, works as advertised, maybe better.

  Pros

  I was looking for Windows software that would stream video and audio into a custom Windows streaming plug-in of a software-service provider for my client's organization. The paid versions are lots cheaper than some of the competition, and the free version doesn't insert any kind of logo or other limitations that would interfere with the data stream.

  Cons

  Nothing major that I can see, so far. Appears to be very well-thought-out. Comment: When I first set it up, the video from a low-quality camera looked choppy, but I went into settings for that module, clicked "Deinterlace Blend" and... bingo! Luckily I had a feeling that setting would be there when I went looking for it (click on the "gear" icon for that video module).

  Summary

  Vmix was pretty easy to figure out, and has the features I needed, and lots more. Turns out that the free version of vmix is way more than enough for my purposes, but I can see using any of the paid versions when needed for this or any other client. I think the best compliment I can give vmix is that I would pay for what's currently the free version, if I needed to.

  Pros

  It works just like it says it does.

  Cons

  If you are not familiar enough with your computer to find the output (recording) files this program will suck for you. But then most computing sucks for you already so no big change.

  Summary

  My webcam is old and not quite expensive. Microsoft's software refused to even recognize it though M$ is the manufacturer. So I was looking around for some software to capture my webcam. After looking around a bit I started losing hope with all the supposedly "free" applications turning out to need some form of payment and was often buggy. I didn't even install any of the crap-tacular examples, I don't need the removal headaches. Then I happened to notice this on C/Net. The editors review was good and the user reviews led me to think this would work for my needs. Boy was I surprised out how over-met my needs were handled. It takes just a small amount of computer literacy to understand what is happening though. There is no really Id10t version of getting started to help you along... if you are an id10t you will probably get nowhere. However after a little bit of RTFM from me, and a dig into file storage, I was golden. Warning: If you play with the slider in the middle of the inputs... one screen is your input one is what is being recorded. If you blank the recording one it will not get recorded. Hopefully this fairly informs people of what to expect and what to not trip over. This program does not ask for money, it doesn't ask to install anything else or no tool bars on and on. It just works. And once you work, trust me for 30 minutes I thought I worked and it didn't, you will absolutely love this program. It truly is 5 kinds of awesome. Awesome without any charge!

  Many features Free version Easy to use (relatively speaking) Able to handle all kinds of inputs including dvds, capture devices, powerpoint, photos, video files. Handles HD video

  Cons

  not much really, just some minor things here and there. overall, features that are implemented work well.

  Summary

  Great video mixer, capable of handling mixes from multiple sources at once. Can handle multiple cameras if you have the inputs for them on your computer. Can queue files, dvd's, and powerpoints as well. Has the ability to overlay multiple sources and gives complete control over positioning and includes overlay templates to label content/people on the screen and provide news tickers. For live playback the program introduces almost no delay (practically imperceptible) so it could be used to put a speaker of an event on the screen and the delay is not cringe-worthy.
