Vit Registry Fix Free is one of the nicer freeware registry tools we've tried, and one of the more thorough in its actions, too. It creates automatic backups of your registry before it changes anything, so it's safe for beginners.

Vit removes a variety of unnecessary entries from your registry. That usually makes your system boot more quickly and run faster. Vit also packs in some useful extras, including a Registry Optimizer and Disk Cleaner.

Vit Registry Fix has a clean and attractive interface that is a welcome break from the overstyled GUIs so common these days. Before we started a scan, we visited the Settings tab, where we could uncheck any of the scan categories, configure shortcut scans, and uncheck the registry backup option. We strongly recommend leaving the backup option checked, though, unless you have a different registry backup active or you're certain the scan's findings are safe to remove. Vit also offers an Ignored List for keys the scan should skip.

Vit's other tabs give access to a History file, a Software list, and a Tools menu. When we'd made all our selections, we ran a scan. On its first scan, Vit turned up quite a few invalid entries, most of which were in the Deep Scan section and related to junk left over from uninstalled software. Clicking Show Results displayed a detailed listing of the scan's findings, each with its own check box. Vit's toolbar has "Select all" and "Deselect all" buttons, making it easy to select what to remove. Clicking Fix Error cleaned the list up. While we can't swear our PC ran more quickly, nothing bad happened, and at least we knew the garbage had been taken out.

The Registry Optimizer is a separate, bundled tool that compacts the registry. It requires a reboot. It reclaimed quite a bit of space from our registry, and our system booted normally and just a bit more quickly, too.

Some of Vit Registry Fix Free's English translations could use a bit of tweaking themselves. But we have no trouble recommending this free tool's registry tweaks.

Good program, but adds context menu with no option to r

Overall, a good program that cleans history and registry items.
Cons
This installer adds a "Vit Uninstall Manager" context menu to the recycle bin that is not deleted when uninstalling the software. There is also not any option in the program's settings to enable or disable the context menu. The registry key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Vit Uninstall Manager If this context menu were not installed by default and left in the registry after uninstalling the program, I would give this four or five stars, but this one issue is something that is not needed, and can cause a lot of problems for those who do not know how to find Recycle Bin menu items in the recistry.

Pros
1) Finds and fixes an incredible number of errors - 3,500 on my system! Most of these aren't killer problems, but at best they all slow your computer down. At worst, registry errors can combine in very subtle ways to cause crashes that are very hard to track down. 2) Beautifully simple interface for such a complex program. 3) Total flexibility in quickly deciding which errors you might want to fix. You should never use any registry cleaner if you don't understand the registry. It's like driving with your eyes shut!

1) The current version of the paid program is, I think, 12.5. The free version is 9.5 - about a year old. Not a practical problem, but you should be aware of it. It's very cheap to buy! 2) Some people complain about the English. It's pretty good and I had no difficulty understanding any of it. How's your Ukrainian? 3) In short, no cons at all really.
Summary
I use Windows 7 and like it a lot, but it has three main problem areas. Sleep and Restore are useful but tend to respond badly to problems elsewhere in the system. Similarly, Booting can hang for no obvious reason. These are three of the most common queries on discussion groups - with an infinite variety of fixes. Very often these errors can be traced to the Registry - manifestations of badly uninstalled software or rebooting when Windows is in the middle of sorting out a problem - something it is very good at but it rarely lets you know what is going on. On starting the PC from shutdown, it would get halfway through booting Windows, then hang before reaching the login screen. It always booted successfully if I then did a warm boot. Once into Windows it rebooted perfectly, but not if I shutdown and restarted. Obviously, there was nothing seriously wrong. Then Sleep started failing, it stopped ok but wouldn't wake up. I suspected Registry problems and used Wise Registry Cleaner. This cured the Sleep problem, but not the need to boot twice - which eventually caused the Sleep failure to return. So, I looked around for something more robust. At last I came on Vit Registry Fix. It identified over 300 Registry errors, and if I used Deep Scan found another 3,500! I removed the Deep Scan results from the output, because I didn't understand the ouptut, and fixed the rest. That took three iterations - fixing Registry errors should always cause more errors since many entries interact with each other. Then I examined the Deep Scan errors in detail - after fixing the other errors, they were now all related to missing files. So I fixed them too. I ran the scan a couple of times more until it found no errors. the program had made two backups of Registry - with and without Deep Scan - so I was happy to test my system. Everything works properly - Sleep, Restore, and booting from a shutdown now all function perfectly. I tested about twenty of my installed programs and they seem fine too. So, I have a consistent Registry with over 3000 fewer entries and a working computer. Thank you Vit Software! As I say, I would not recommend this excellent program to anyone who doesn't understand the Registry. No program should be used as a Black Box - particularly one that has the potential to wreck your system. Hacking the Registry is not a good idea unless you have a problem. It should certainly not be done as a sort of housekeeping exercise - as recommended by the more irresponsible vendors of utility software. If it ain't broke - don't fix it! Finally, as a matter of interest, the main cause of my Registry problems was the appallingly inept uninstall of Visual Express 2008 and two versions of SQL Server. To be fair to Microsoft, these things do interact with a lot of other software, making uninstall a nightmare. But, they're happy to take our money for these things, so it is up to them to make uninstall work properly. They could do worse than consult the purveyors of Vit Registry Fix!

Pros
This program find more registry errors that others not found. It does backup first to delete errors (optional). It not only defragments the registry but rebuilds it for a better operation. Scan are deep and fast on mu window 7.

Pros
I've used all sorts of registry cleaners and tweekers. Most with other utility packages and some single standing, not in awhile because they weren't worth keeping. This one is and does the job handsomely.

Other registry cleaners are either safe but superficial or thorough but unsafe. This program offers the best of both worlds. It not only defragments the registry but REBUILDS it.

Bottom-line is this you want something user friendly without all the hubba-baloo then this program will do. As with any cleaning , optimizing, registery fixer, Should always do more than one scan since oftem items may be missed on initial scanning. A rating of 5 star would be if the program could fully remove stubborn programs through the uninstall feature and if it didn't miss items on the initial scanning of the registry. Otherwise this program is good for the less advanced users/novice.
