Editors’ Review
Videobox for Mac combines a video downloader and a media converter into one compact package. The app features a mini Web browser for tracking down videos you'd like to download as well as a Safari extension; but in our tests the latter didn't work. The conversion process is seamless, with just a few options to configure, and the output video is of a good quality with no distortions.
Videobox for Mac's clean main interface features drag-and-drop integration for converting local files to the default output format. All Apple devices as well as some third-party ones like the Xbox and PSP have preloaded output profiles. You may optionally set the software to remove successfully completed jobs from the list and to import them to iTunes. When testing, we were able to convert a two-minute VMW video to an MP4 in under four seconds. In order to download videos from the Web, the app features a mini browser, which lets it detect embedded videos.
If you like to watch movies on your handheld devices even when you're not connected to the Internet, you should give Videobox for Mac a try. The drag-and-drop mode of operation, combined with the uncluttered interface, makes this software easy and intuitive to use. The only knock against the app is the broken Safari extension, but the same functionality can be obtained from the built-in Web browser.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Videobox for Mac 4.0.4.
