While this program earns a few brownie points for being open source, it doesn't stand out in terms of features among freeware options. To download files, you simply click on the appropriate link in your browser (Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox are supported) or copy a link to the program Clipboard. The interface is fairly basic (and even looks a bit amateur) but most functions are easy to find and use. While TrueDownloader includes a basic scheduler to log off the Net after downloading is complete, it doesn't offer batch downloads or even automatic file sorting. During testing, we ran into some stability problems. While browsing a downloaded ZIP file, the program crashed. Overall, while this is an adequate program for downloading, we'd like to see more features in this freeware option.

Every download I did was always corrupted. Images had gray patches going across them; mp3,wma or mpeg files had a popping noise or sections of missing audio or video. When uninstalling this program, the TrueDownloader IE Help .dll was impossible to uninstall or delete. Better off sticking with Free Download Manager or others that will work.

I like open source software. Most features however apply to broadband users, and I'm on dialup - I just use these programs to be able to download large files in multiple segments over time. See cons.
Cons
Doesn't correctly download continued files from multiple sessions. I've tried several times, and every single time the file ends up being corrupted. The same files work just fine when downloaded by other methods.

Pros
This is a general download accelerator that has all general features you would expect. It does what it's supposed to do, without adding anything extra or taking anything away.
Cons
Do not expect this to noticably accelerate downloads on a dial-up modem. This product will only speed up downloads as much as your bandwidth allows. In my case, using a high speed connection with about 1000kb/sec total bandwidth, I could download a file from a slow server at 20kb/sec. With this program, I downloaded the same file at 170kb/sec. I strongly stress that this product works only within your maximum bandwidth. Use it only if you are downloading something at a fraction of your bandwidth.

Easy to use, basic accelerator. You just highlight and copy the link/address of the download and it asks if this is to be downloaded. Contributor seems a genuine bloke (for a Frenchy ! jk.), he's trying hard to help. Only use for any of these accelerator programs is to resume broken downloads, so may as well use a freebie like this one.
Cons
Does not increase download speed (I use 52k dial up) but then I have never found a so called accelerator that does, even the ones you pay for. Download slows a little bit if you surf the web at the same time. Light on instructions, but they're not really needed anyway. At least it doesn't slow the download like some I've tried !

Wow. Speedbit has really left its soldier (read: DAP) to rot in the cold. TrueDownloader is a great program all-around. And since it's open-source, it's a perfect supplement for Linux, too!
