Isotope 244's Tropical Island Escape 3D Screensaver brings all-too-realistic views of, well, paradise, and its soothing wave sounds make for an instant vacation that's worth taking at any time, but most especially on a cold, dark, dreary morning when the cubicle walls seem to be closing in. Tropical Island 3D Screensaver has three gorgeous views to choose from, as well as a jaunty Caribbean music track as an alternative to the beach track. You can set it to play one of your own tunes, too. This formerly for-pay screensaver is now freeware that works in Windows versions NT to 8, though obviously it will display better in newer machines with more powerful 3D graphics.

Tropical Island Escape installs and configures like any screensaver (under Personalization). But it has its own Settings sheet, which let us set the display change frequency, fit images to our screen, specify either the wave sounds, the supplied music, or one of our own audio files, and even show the time and date and similar display options. Clicking "Preview" produced the first image, a small but oh-so-inviting tropical island viewed from the perspective of someone lying on an inflatable raft, holding a tall, cool...OK, so it's extremely easy to let the realistic rippling water effect and gentle wave and breeze sounds grab your imagination and run away with it when Tropical Island Escape kicks in; but then, that's the point.

Tropical Island Escape 3D Screensaver's laid-back perspective makes the realistically rendered views that much more appealing; and the gentle ocean sounds are almost enough on their own, though we like the idea of changing the background sounds, too. Just about everyone deals with stress, noise, and other things that can set you off. And when you're off, why not spend a few minutes on this little tropical island we heard about? You'll feel much more relaxed and refreshed when you get back!

Great graphics with poor test

Great graphics. Configuration works with no problems.
Cons
After install, it brings three demos from the same author. Easy to uninstall. The program stop working on the second time because it tries to search its installation directory in a wrong path in registry (fix on summary). A shame, because it's easy to fix it.
Summary
To fix the reinstall error message, go to regedit and duplicate the "InstallDir" value at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Isotope 244\Tropical Island Escape create the same key/value at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Isotope244 Graphics\Tropical Island Escape Try to run screensaver. This is a programing error from the author.

The screen shot is pretty but that is where it ends.

Downloaded it, installed all went well but now it will not run, i get an error message that says to reinstall, forget it.

This looks good on the outside but does not work as promised so I will tell anyone looking to download this program DON'T DOES NOT WORK!!!!

I made the mistake of not reading the reviews. Would not open after it was installed. Went thru and uninstalled everything I thought but missed a search program it had installed. Next time I will read the reviews first.

I didn't see anything so I have no "pros" to report.
Cons
While downloading it asks if you want to add certain toolbars, etc. to which I answered "no" each time. It downloaded them anyway. After downloading I went to check my screensavers and was notified that even though it showed up I could not run it because there was no download and the file was empty and requested to download it again. I did not do that.
Summary
I sincerely hope that you have a better experience than I did. I had to uninstall about 7 different things to get rid of everything it put on my computer. Will now run a malware scan to make sure everything is gone. Updated on Jul 24, 2013I see I'm not the only one with the same error message that the program couldn't be found. I agree with sndwnr to take this to Davey Jones' locker and forget about it.
The program is waterlogged...filled with junk.

Initially it looked great but...(read on)

The first issue was that it added demo game links on my desktop that I neither needed nor wanted (and that was AFTER going thru the initial screens declining all the other add-on garbage). Then I went to my screensaver settings to 'preview' it and it looked great, so I thought all was well. Then when it came time for the screensaver to start up, I got an error message on the screen saying a file couldn't be found. So back to the settings and lo and behold there was no Tropical Island screensaver to be found (the title was there but nothing more). So, where did it go? I have no clue. I tried downloading and reinstalling the program again only to have the same thing happen again. After that I deleted it...it HAD great potential but failed miserably. I'd like to know where C-net gets their programs...I want the ones they get without all the added crap.
Summary
Lock this program away in Davey Jones locker at the bottom of the ocean never to be seen or heard from again.

Excellent graphics, and nice the way it changes from Day to Night on the island, along with the wave/ocean sounds. And the sounds can be turned off as well!
Cons
I have a dual monitor. Only shows on one of the monitors. When coming off of the screen saver, it minimizes the stuff that was open on the 2nd monitor. No big deal - I just re-maximize the stuff on that monitor, and all is well! It doesn't close out the stuff, only minimizes it on the screen (but again, easy to maximize the stuff All in all, it really is EXCELLENT!
