• The best most useful picture software I have ever used!

  Pros

  I cannot praise this software enough. As one of its most long-term users (20+ years) it has made the filing, basic processing, augmenting and retrieval of my huge teaching collection not only a fast, practical process, but in its simple elegance, an enormous pleasure, that has never diminished over the years. (See my summary remarks below)

  Cons

  As a non-expert, there is nothing that I would change. Everything I want to do can be done in an easy logical fashion.

  Summary

  I have been using ThumbsPlus for over 20 years to classify in multiple folders and sub-folders my huge teaching collection (140,000+) of Art History pictures. I can find any item in that collection in seconds! While I still use Photoshop Elements for some critical processes, the bulk of my work can be done using Thumbs. I first discovered ThumbsPlus over twenty years ago when I was new to computers, and downloaded the free trial until, as my knowledge grew, I needed the functions of the full program. I have been an enthusiastic user, without break, since that time, subscribing to every update. I can't imagine my picture-editing life without Thumbs. I use it every day and it is the platform from which I manage and augment my picture collection. I have never been able to understand why more people do not use this flexible tool as I do. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. My praise is boundless!!! :-)

• Very easy to use to manage and touch up pictures

  Pros

  Easy to manage tons of pictures. Easy to use touch up interface. Detailed JPEG compression option. Can sort out similarly duplicate pictures.

  Cons

  Cannot manage AVCHD (.mts) video format.

  Summary

  Perfect for general office picture management software. I have used it extensively in my engineering office for over 15 years.

• No Win 8.1 compatible version??

  Pros

  Looks like software I would and could use IF it was compatible with Win 8.1. Since the release date for this version is Nov 2014, I'm guessing you plan to skip 8.1 support and work on 10; is that true? I would hope not.

  Is not compatible with Win 8.1

  Summary

  I have a new laptop built for graphics. . .but, alas this software is not on it!

• A necessary piece of software for every computer

  Pros

  Easy to use, fast, intuitive, good functionality-to-complexity ratio, reasonable price

  Not the greatest customer service, occasional quirks can be annoying

  Summary

  I've been using this software practically from its initial release. It probably does 97 percent of what most people need in the way of image processing. It works with most formats (jpg, gjf, TIFF, png, etc.) It even supports RAW images for most brands (with an optional plug-in that I think is still free). It may not be the only image processor you'll ever need, but it'll be the one you use the most.

  09JUNE2014 I have been using Thumbs Plus since about version 3.0, ten years or more ago. I started managing my digital photo collection with simple PS cameras in the early 2000's through my current camera, the Nikon D700. The fact that Thumbs Plus does not re-arrange your photos, does not create a "virtual library", means that your photos stay where you put them on your hard drive (Sub-directories such as YYYY MO DAY description....makes life so easy), thus the photos are not dependent on one file to be accessed. With Thumbs Plus, the user can create shortcuts to any photo editing software installed on the computer, and place said shortcut on the Thumbs Plus Toolbar. The user can browse photos in Thumbs Plus, select a photo and easily send the photo to the desired photo editor at the click of a toolbar shortcut. Of course this method is capable of editing photos in a non-destructive manner....edit the photo in the desired software, select SAVE AS, add a "c" or other denotation at the end of the file name and save it next to the original file!

• Doesn't read files in new version like older versions

  None found program does not meet needs at all anymore.

  Cons

  I have been using Thumbsplus since version 4. I have files created in Corel's Photo Paint with the extension .CPT. Newest version freezes program and will not display files. Three emails and requests for refund have been ignored for 18 months now. This is my first bad review of a product.

  Summary

  Bad product, worse customer service. Buyer beware.

  I have been a long-term user of ThumbsPlus (since 2002) but over the last 5 years Cerious, the manufacturer, has gone completely downhill. There is absolutely no customer support anymore. The software itself has a routine which in the event of a crash sends an (optional) error report to Cerious. One even gets an automated email back with a case number and some meaningless reassurance that there will be a fix soon. But nothing ever happens. Really. Nothing. Approximately the last three updates never worked for me, the installations never once finished. There was always an error message and one had to abort. I have uninstalled, re-installed - all to no avail. All the while Cerious never once responded to support requests. It is a shame that this program which used to be perfect for my needs because it has customizable user fields I can define myself has become a buggy, unstable version. I don't recommend ThumbsPlus to anyone anymore because once you have a problem with it, you are on your own.

• Relibale, easy-to-use thumnailing programme

  Pros

  Intuitive, stable, very customisable, allows batch processes, nice load of keyboard shortcuts, etc. Doesn't try to re-organise anything, very handy if you "think in file folders" ...

  Cons

  Not the most full-featured photo editor, but then again - that's not what it is for in the end.

• Horrible Support

  Pros

  Used the program forever and I really liked it. Not anymore.

  Cons

  No support. Maybe somebody will answer the phone, maybe not. Did talk to somebody, sent the error logs, said they'd call back tomorrow. No call back. Happened a couple of times.

  Summary

  Used to be a good program. Not anymore. Gotten fragile. Database breaks and nobody can help. I'm done with them.

  Pros

  1. Easy to find images either on your computer or offline (such as on a DVD). I've been using Thumbsplus for over 10 years with more then a million images (textile designs) arcived and I've never had a problem finding a design. 2. I printout catalogs so I can show my customers what I have worked on when I bill them. Printing a catalog is much easier and faster then creating contact sheets (which Thumbsplus does too). So in short it takes the drudgery out of billing my customers.

  Cons

  Tech support is nonexistent for the past few years. They don't answer their phones, return phone calls or return emails. I don't understand it. Good tech support is the best advertisement you can have. Here's an indispesible software (the best out there for archiving) and they act as though they don't care about their customers.

  Summary

  In short. The initial concept of Thumbsplus is a good one and an asset to any art studio. Thumbsplus got everything right from the start. It's hands down the best archiving software out there (yes, lightroom is terrible for archiving). I hope they get their tech support/act together. Ignoring tech support is a huge mistake.
