Throttled Pro provides weighted network queues (WF2Q+) that guarantee bandwidth for all your essential network services like web browsing, email, and online gaming. In addition, it provides ACK packet priority which speeds up downloads when you are sending out a lot of data. Also allows you to prioritize any other internet protocol you want to remain responsive under heavy load. - Includes optimizations for many online games including Unreal Tournament 2004, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, Ghost Recon, Starcraft, Warcraft II, Warcraft III, and Diablo II. - Manages BitTorrent, FTP, DCC and other file sharing protocols so your connection always stays lag free. - Allows you to cap the bandwidth of any service or combination of services. You may have an unlimited number of bandwidth caps if you use the Advanced Configuration panel. - Provides ACK packet priority to guarantee fast download speeds while your machine is uploading at maximum speed.
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Note folks. Throttles 0.5 is still beta software. I am pleased that a GUI was created for it that provides ease of use for those who hate CLIs even more than I do. However, the heart of this program remains Throttled, not the GUI. I have no complaints at all about the GUI and gladly give it five stars: *****
But Throttled itself only gets one star from me. Usually I would not give a star rating to a beta program, but this is an exception. I don't believe anyone should be using Throttled if what I discovered is a universal problem.
BAD STUFF: Throttled turns OFF the Mac OS X Firewall. My testing is only in 10.4.11. I will be further testing in Leopard. Why it does this is beyond my comprehension. The fact that it does this is DANGEROUS. No way am I using Throttled again until this nasty blunder is solved. It comes down to this: The possibility of my Mac being invaded and compromised is not worth minor speedups in Internet access.
Conclusion: Watch this software for a solution to the Firewall blunder. Meanwhile: DO NOT USE Throttled.
Caveat: Someone please find a workaround for this dangerous problem or prove to me that it is harmless. I'd like to champion this program.

Don't waste your time or money.
Superb Product, Superb Support =)

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I too had some initial issues and questions about throttled (and Throttled Pro) on my Tiger system. But after doing some tests, examining the results and then sending an e-mail to the developer got everything working just fine.
The bottomline of why this product initially had trouble with my Tiger installation is that I already had several firewall rules in place. Throttled really doesn't know how best to automatically place its own rules within this context. For some it might work right away... for others the new firewall rules added may have no impact at all.
If you seem to find this product not "working", please examine your own firewall setups and try to place throttled's rules *before* other firewall rules that take effect even before the new ones get a chance. For me, I had to change my rule number to 00005 *and* delete a "check-state" from rule 00001, moving it to 00006. Throttled rules are now working for me.
The developer was very responsive to my e-mailed questions and suggestions for improvement. I couldn't ask for anything more.
