Editors’ Review
Connect for Mac lets you make and receive phone calls straight from your Mac while it's connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth. You can just keep this program running in the background while you're working, and you'll immediately see when someone is calling you.
Pros
iMessage replies: When you see an incoming call that you aren't free to answer right away, you can opt for an iMessage reply instead. This feature only works if the caller uses iMessage as well, but it lets you send a message straight from your computer to the number that just called you with only a few clicks.
Voice activation: If you want to make a call, you only need to click the microphone button and say the name of the person you want to call. As long as your phone is capable of accepting voice commands, your Mac will access your Contacts and find the number for the person you want to call. You can then place the call with voice command, as well.
Cons
Unresponsive to typing: If you don't want to or can't use voice commands, the interface also seems to allow for searches to be typed in. However, during testing, we were never able to get the app to respond to typing. The cursor was in the proper place and blinking, but nothing happened when we typed.
Delay on calls: There was a two to four second delay on all calls placed through this program. This is a pretty significant inconvenience and makes for a frustrating conversation.
Bottom Line
Connect for Mac does link your phone and computer, and it offers some nice features. But its shortcomings seem to outweigh its benefits in our opinion. It costs $1.99 to download from the App Store if you want to try it out.
