"Parameter error - there may be an invalid character (that is, /\\|:*?â??&lt;&gt;) in the file or folder name." 2) Mistakenly things destination drive is full when it isn't even close to full. "The disk is full." "B.S."!

However I doubt many users set their desktop, let alone their laptop, never to sleep. Surely most users of this product need to synchronize folders over a Wi-Fi network, where one or both Macs may be asleep or out of range at scheduled sync time, and SXP <i>has</i> to be able to cope with this.</p> <p>So far I have failed to find a set-up that does not lead to SXP hanging when a volume is not available, despite the existence of a disk error time-out option in preferences. Even the option to abandon a sync attempt if a scheduled time has passed doesn't appear to prevent this.</p> <p>The most irritating thing is that it slows down the whole system, and after a Force Quit it forgets all my preferences and persistently shows the license splash screen on launch.</p> <p>Oh, and I agree with the comment that the user interface needs updating. The concept of running 'documents' may make sense in the context of scripts, but especially since the main window of a SXP document only displays the folder names and whether it's a sync or backup, I think a Mail-style Rules window with the syncs listed and an Edit button would be more intuitive.</i>

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I think this a fantastic app and I've been using it since the OS9 days (when it was simply Synchronize) for both synchronization and backing up. Although the interface is not flashy, it tells you exactly what you need to know, exactly what's being changed (before it starts), and its fast, reliable, and error free. I have not encountered a bug or error in the 6+ years I have used this. I've tried lots of backup programs, and I always go back to this one. One star taken away because: user interface could use a little sprucing up, but its not difficult how to figure out, and its 2 year license is a bit steep since this program has not changed much over the years. If there were major changes, I could see how they can justify new charges just to continue using the same program. Also, I hear it "phone's home" and sends user data back to the developer. I'm not savvy enough to determine this, and I've been using this for over 6 years without any security issues that I know of. Given these issues I would highly recommend trying this out. I sync 2 macs (either over appletalk network or firewire HD mode), backup my desktop mac to a firewire drive, and backup current projects to a USB flash drive.

It worked fairly well, but I soon found a fairly common data-loss problem, where files would be lost for good. Tech support's response: "It's not at the top of the priority list". Very disappointing, and I stopped using the product.</p> <p>Recently I found that it had been heavily updated since I last used it. The license stated (and still states) "You may also use other versions of the Software as may be released within two years of your license purchase", so that means I have the right to use version 2.5, which was released May of '05.</p> <p>But! the only version available on the website is the latest, 2.5.2, for which I'd have to pay another &#36;20. No problem, I thought, and contacted tech support for a copy of version 2.5. The response: <b>"We make only the current version of our products available for download."</b> In other words, they won't give me version 2.5 to use, even though I was told I'd have the right to use it.</p> <p>As I said in the title of this post, this is some mixture of greedy and lame. Perhaps they can't figure out how to make earlier versions available: lame. Perhaps they're hoping that my being denied access to the earlier version they said I could use will entice me to spend for an upgrade: greedy.</p> <p>Version 1.1.7 is a decent product, as long as you're aware of the data loss issues. Perhaps 2.5+ is a great product: I'll never find out now.</p>

The Pro version is even better, but unfortunately the price is a bit steep. So, this will be the product of choice for many.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />As a long-time user of Synchronize! for OS 9, which originally cost me $29.95, I liked the OS 9 product so well that I bought Synchronize X Plus without checking it out as thoroughly as I should have. Several key features of the OS 9 version of Synchronize! are missing. Notably, the directional arrow no longer responds to clicking on it, and the checkbox "Delete files and folders not in the Master folder" is gone. The "Synchronize" setup does not delete files, but forces bidirectional copying; the "Backup" setup copies in only one direction, but forces the deletion of files and folders that do not exist in the Master folder. I am really, really, really annoyed that Synchronize! X Plus is not feature-equivalent to the comparable OS 9 product.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Nice anti-piracy prevention. I have two computers I want to synchronize, a PB G4 and a G4 800. I installed the program on both computers. Now it is unusable as it detected the double installation. On the other hand, it is unusable with Panther since it requires a mounted volume. Other wise it has problems with permissions.

  ...Bug!<br />This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Use Extreme Caution: Installing "AutoSync" oiption will delete __everything else__ in your Login Items list _without warning__. Worse, this is a known bug and Qdea says only "We expect to fix the problem with deleting other item from the Login Items in System Preferences in a forthcoming release". This is unacceptible. Also, Qdea Tech Support is, well, a bit short and rude to customers... a bad way to start a business relationship. YMMV. Take head. Caveat emptor. SyncPlus does excatly what I need, but given the rude response from customer service (and the fact that no other app I have used in over a year has deletecd every item from my Login items - especially not with full knowlege of the developer!) I will not be buying additional copies... I will also be looking for a better solution.
