The StumbleUpon add-on for Internet Explorer wears a lot of hats--random site surfer, social networker, bookmarker, and site reviewer. It's a powerful application for its size, although it's much larger than the Firefox version.

Installation requires running the executable file, and removing this add-on from the new Explorer requires going through Windows' Control Panel, whereas its Firefox cousin can be added and removed from within the browser.

Browser preference aside, both versions have the same toolbar. We struck no snags when used with other add-ons or programs. Once activated, one click is all it took to get going. The "Stumble!" logo whips the user around the Net at the user's pace, based on categories selected during installation. Hundreds of topics are available and can be updated at will, with no selection limit.

The other StumbleUpon functions are just as user-friendly in the IE version as they are in Firefox. Ratings, sharing and reviewing sites, and updating the friends list are all accessible with just one click.

Sometimes, "stumbling" would take us to a StumbleUpon page that reminded us to upload a profile image or some other annoying-but-trivial nonsense. Another "stumble" would whisk us to our next random Web page.

If Web surfing is the new channel surfing, then StumbleUpon works as an outstanding remote.

What's new in version 3.27

Version 3.27 adds features for sharing on Twitter and Facebook, pre-caching performance enhancements, search augmentation support for new sites.

Toolbar works well, but....

If you're familiar with StumbleUpon then you should also know all of the Pros that should be listed, and that there are too many to list!
Cons
I don't know why people (in every area of technology) feel the need to make changes to a product that is already exemplary. For years StumbleUpon remained, for the most part, untouched. And as far as I'm concerned, it didn't need to be, as it is very, very good at what it does. The one complaint that led me to re-downloading this add-on was that I had started to get an error message ("StumbleUpon has suffered a fatal error") every time I used IE; either IE8 or IE9. And despite the new logo and new Home page and the other unnecessary changes that were made, that problem still persists. Despite the error message StumbleUpon still works, but I prefer to use it in another browser that doesn't have the error message and audio alert popping up over and over and over....
Summary
StumbleUpon is still great but, for me at least, doesn't work very well with IE.

It has shown me things I don't normally "stumble upon" in my normal surfing. It also makes note of sites I do visit and suggests other ones of a similar nature.Great!

If you like surfing for sites that have all different kinds of stuff, but you just don't think outside the box enough....StumbleUpon is the ticket!
