Streaming Audio Recorder offers a plethora of options for recording audio files and listening to music. You can record just about any audio from your favorite website, convert audio files into different formats, and listen to streaming radio.

Pros

Quickly capture audio: With Streaming Audio Recorder, we were able to successfully capture a snippet of music from a YouTube video. We were also able to play back the audio without any issues.

Multiple file formats: Users can choose from five different output file formats for capturing and converting files. From the Record Settings tab, we were able to toggle back and forth between output formats to capture audio in MP3, AAC, OGG, WMA, and WAV file formats.

Built-in radio: The program comes with 35 different genres to choose from for streaming radio.

Cons

Share doesn't actually share: We were pleased to see that Streaming Audio Recorder includes a Share function. But when we clicked to share our audio recording on Facebook, it merely shared a link to the publisher's website, rather than our recording.

Clunky design: While the user interface appears fairly straightforward at first glance, each option introduces a pop-up window with a dizzying array of settings options, most of which you don't actually need to get the job done.

Bottom Line

While Streaming Audio Recorder successfully captured audio in the formats we selected, we weren't fans of its poorly designed interface. For that reason, you might want to consider other audio recorders before settling on this one.

Terrible latency problems with recording

interface is tiny and easy to navigate, records system audio decently enough, just don't expect it to do anything else.

Recording with system and microphone together is broken and latency problems make it unusable.
Summary
Got this to do one thing and one thing, only: Record system audio and microphone together to sing and record karaoke performances. Unfortunately, the one reason I I got this software was all for nothing as all mic and system recordings are delayed by 3-4 seconds, making it completely unsuitable for use. For reference, this is not a problem with either of my sources being recorded as they are both at the exact same frequency, the problem with latency and the recording being off sync is with the program itself. This program is the literal definition of "you had one job". It fails to do that. Sure, it records system audio itself, but any free program can do that. Makes me wonder why the "Both System Audio And Microphone" setting is even there as it's the one reason to get this and the one thing that doesn't even work correctly.

Pros
Records many music file types and at high quality. Easy to use (Or quick to learn). Allows limited editing, searching and can automatically add ID3 Tags or allow you to edit them, if you have the information. A promising program (Version 3.3.4) with catches.
Cons
1) Free version has limitations and is not free as they claim, but a trial version, there is a difference. 2) Three minute maximum music file length is too short for most songs. 3) Download only one piece of music at a time. 4) Pop up trial reminder with 5 second delay. 5) The registered versions start at $39.95 US per Year !!! For someone that will only download occasionally, It would be better for me to buy the whole album. 6) The trial versions three minute music length limitation makes this program unacceptable, there are programs out there that will allow longer recording. 7) Programmers who want yearly payments, it seems the way to go, for them, not for me.
Summary
Getting rid of the trial versions ridiculous limitations will cost you from $39.95 US per year to $99.95 US per year. For a Canadian that will be $50.00 CAD after conversion and tax. Way too expensive. For $49.99 US they seem to throw in a streaming video recorder which on the face of it seams a reasonable deal, but I only want Audio! In summary, not a good download.

It is a graphical program so I can record audio, convert audio into other formats easily. I have tested a lot of such kinds of audio recorders before. In general, it has the most functions.
Cons
If the developers can add more advanced features onto it, it will be better. For example, it can record several channels of radios seperately.

Virus Riddled Garbage That Does Not Work

The installation was quick and easy. But riddled with viruses.
Cons
Once opened the program disabled my sound card on my Windows XP machine. My anti virus program then detected a virus. I rebooted my computer just to get the same result upon restart. When I un-installed this program my computer went back to normal. I would stay away from this piece of junk. Also, I thought CNet made sure it's programs contained no viruses? I would give this 0 stars if I could.

Paid Version unstable in Win 7 64

Simple to use, but not worth the headaches.
Cons
Paid for the full version and within a week caused serious instability with Win 7 64-bit. I had to roll back the computer to installation date and remove the program in safe mode. It began by causing the system to shut down on start up. Got progresively worse. Finally showed as a phantom item on C drive without a driver. Once removed, all is well.
