Gain control over programs that automatically start up.
StartEd Lite is a tool which helps you to control your Windows start-up process. It recognizes start-up programs which are either obsolete or memory hogs. You can safely disable such items in order to increase your computer's performance. StartEd Lite detects also more than 150 trojan horses, the most destructive and dangerous species of computer viruses. It allows you to back up and restore your start-up configurations. StartEd Lite displays detailed info about the functionality of every system service so that even novice users are able to manage their startsup configuration. A warning message will be displayed when a system service vital for your computer's stability is about to get disabled. You get also the ability to uninstall programs directly from StartEd Lite.
If you're looking for a cutesy program with a big "Easy" button then get, I don't know, something else. This one is all about function. StarteEd Lite sees items other programs overlook, and it's full of little details for people who appreciate that kind of thing. If that's you, try it. Right click an entry in the list, for example. Don't forget to write.

Pros
downloads OK
Cons
everything squished together, hard to read. doesn't always warn you on everything: i turned off an app. and had to use system restore to fix it. no warning whatsoever from StartEd Lite that it was important.
Summary
there's better startup managers out there.
Very Good for the Price!

Pros
For a freeware startup manager, this little utility does its job, and does it well. It has similar functionality to the CodeStuff Starter which also is free.
Cons
Not much to dislike, other than perhaps the colors chosen for display are a bit 'strong and take some getting used to. But once you get used to it, the considerable amt of helpful info available is amazing!
Summary
Automatically and easily control what programs you allow to startup when Windows boots up. Very convenient for troubleshooting and also for installation of large programs {particularly security programs} which prefer a 'clean' environment for successful installs; you can temporarily disable unnecessary items from startup, reboot and then do your installation in an environment without those other startup programs running; then when done, and if the installation {of a new AV, Firewall, or Office Suite, etc} went well and checks out, you can easily re-enable the startup programs you disabled, reboot and you're all set! Did I mention it's completely FREE?
