This single-function application provides an alternative to removing empty folders and out-of-date shortcuts from your Start menu. Start Menu Cleaner sports a tiny interface that takes only a click of a button to use. You can scan the Start menu for the currently logged-on user or all users, request confirmation before deletion, and choose to delete empty folders. There's no help file, though this program is so simple one isn't necessary. Start Menu Cleaner duplicates what Windows already does, though novice users might appreciate this simple freeware application's user-friendly approach.
It is buggy. Apparently it cannot handle special shortcuts such as those of Microsoft Office or invalid shortcuts. When it finds one, it stops scanning, leaving the task unfinished.

Didn't do $#!T.End of story.

Pros
Simple, no installing, just run the exe on the spot.
Cons
It didn't do anything. I have lots of leftover invalid shortcuts (windows brings up the familiar "Windows is searching for whatever.exe")from lot's of uninstalling and it missed 100% of them. It did, however, detect one empty folder but that was it. Whopee!
Summary
does not do as supposed

Pros
Cons
I often move program shortcuts in the startmenu to more suitable named folders.
<p>When uninstalling programs, these shortcuts remain, because the uninstall program cannot find them. So Start Menu Cleaner could remove them automatically, but it did not. so I still have to clean up manually.

Pros
This application is simple (though it requires you have .Net framework installed and updated), and it gets the job done. It does not overlook any positives and you can ask it to prompt before it cleans. When working on users' workstations with sloppy start menus (we all know them), this application will save quite a bit of time and afford you the ability to do a more professional job with their system.
Cons
It's easy. Too easy. A little configurability would have been nice. Then again, there isn't much that needs to be configured.
