Editors’ Review
The idea of Moraff SphereJongg remains finding and removing pairs of matching pieces to clear the board. The balls look like the multicolored spheres so popular in early-1990s computer graphics--shiny, textured, and floating in space. You get your choice of three layouts: lines of spheres, the traditional mah-jongg solitaire layout done with spheres, or a combination of spheres and symbolic tiles. The game runs smoothly in windowed or the default full-screen mode, and it offers all kinds of options. Though you can only do a couple of shuffles, the combination of undo and hints makes your odds of winning good. You get to select your victory prizes, most of which are cute text descriptions.
Many of the spheres show artifacts, and despite the 3D effect it's often hard to tell when a ball is playable. When we opened the game, the music didn't play; we had to open the music editor and select MIDI files from the game folder. Some of the music is piercing, though you can skip to the next piece through the Music menu. When you quit, you get an audio promo screen. Still, fans of Moraff games and of mah-jongg should enjoy Moraff SphereJongg.
