  Summary

  I have used for 3 months now, its awesome. The new version 4 is available if you have Windows 7 or above. Use the Microsoft Web Platform Installer to get it, its in APPLICATIONS. The webPI install does everything for you so you literally have to answer one question and bam, setup wizard. Seriously, I used to be a WP cheerleader but they are not even in the same category. This does way more and you don't have to buy any modules or patch it every week. Oh and the manual is on the website, so maybe that was the only weird thing. Don't bother with this version, get v4.

  Finally, someone made a good platform for us Windows users. No PHP coding and no Linux. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to get the thing installed. Great product! Beats Social Engine, Wordpress, Joomla and Simple Machines hands down. Sorry but I have used every single one of them and this is the winner so far.

  I have been using SoNET since version 2 and have had good luck with my Social Network. I like that I can have a small dot com and still make some money without having to advertise. The subscriptions allow me to collect membership dues from the users in my club and we don't have any issues with strangers trolling our network (which is about gaming btw). I actually paid for the software back when it was more than it is now two years ago but its all good since they have given me so much upgrades in the new versions. Tech support is pretty fast and I was able to get some of my suggestions into the 3.0 version so that was cool too. WARNING!!! - You will need to setup your own email or have your domain registrar do it, as your DNS record will need to be updated (MX record). The manual only covers SoNET, not your DNS record or your server stuff. I also recommend not spending any more than you need to for your server monthly bill..the 50 dollar godaddy server is more than enough until you make some money. The good news is that it is EASY to sell 10 websites in a week and its easy to get members for your network as long as you dont be greedy and overcharge, I charge my network members $5 per year to have a website and we all talk and post our videos of matches and screenshots and we even do live cons with the video-chat feature, all you have to do is tell people about your new dot com and they go and build it themselves, I actually made a site for my church and from that sold more sites to people at the church so maybe that is a good place to start for you too.   - Feature rich - Easy to get around - Customizable - Free (at least for what I use it so far) - Fast and not resource intensive - Support for multiple browsers

  After playing with the software for a while I've found out that I can customize it beyond what was in the official documentation. I wish those futures were documented better (like custom templates for sites). On the other hand - the support was quite responsive via email. I also wish they added support for more video formats and maybe better looking mp3 player.

  Summary

  Being a webmaster I was looking for this kind of engine for quite some time. Working with Joomla (which is more powerful by the way, but way more time consuming) I started to get behind with my website orders for paying customers. All of the sudden lots of my friends and family members knowing what I do for a living wanted to have some kind of web presence (essentially a link that they can put on facebook to brag about, I think :)). I really felt wrong for charging them. This engine saved my schedule and reputation :). Install was a breeze (although I did have a hiccup with Sql Express but it didn't look like engine's fault). What was great is that it is very easy to use so I literally created few websites for couple of my friends first and they started to create ones for themselves. Talking about time saver! I'm approaching 18 sites (still free) with no problem. I'm thinking about switching some of my customers from Joomla. Sites get Blog, Journal, Contact form automatically. First page is widget based so there is more hidden content there. Video chat is super simple but works fast. Each site also supports members so some of my pals started to enjoy growing their own circle of friends. There as some features like SEO optimizations that I would not normally expect from engines this cheap. They also come with generous number of templates (changing them is instant, no scripting involved, I love it) but I wish they had more out of the box. Template Kit is nice but so far I have no time to use it. What I found out instead is how to tweak existing templates which works great for me (secret - to create custom one: create folders App_Themes/[SiteNameTheme], _templates/[SiteName] from existing ones, with brackets in name, and it will let you 'see' them only for that site). Overall I am very happy. Great time saver and to me - time is money. I might consider buying the full version any soon.

  Easy to install, fast, feature packed and certainly gets the job done. I was able to setup my own Social Network within 10 mins, from download.

  Cons

  You WILL need to have a Windows virtual server or dedicated and a domain name to take full advantage of this software. Intranet installs ONLY can use a regular computer w/o a domain. I installed at my office for HR to use on a P3 1GHz w 512mb and a 40Gb hdd on XP Pro and it worked fine.

  Summary

  SoNET v3.0 is a good tool to use if you are a Webmaster like myself that sells a lot of sites to small business owners and the general population. This software has helped me increase my income and greatly expand the features that Icould offer to my clients. On top of that, I can now sell Do-It-Yourself (DIY) websites to the general public at a really low price which has opened up my business to a lot more people. As far as features go, this is packed with them. Think of all the popular networks out there and SoNET has nearly all of those features in it. The price is right too since you don't have to buy anything extra like with most CMS systems I have been using. The only real issue I would say was that, if you do not have a real virtual server or a dedicated one from your hosting provider you wont be able to have a network easily because most ISP's block port 80 so you cant serve a website from your home. So you will need to buy a virtual server (about $30 per month for a good one)running Windows Server 2003 or better (because they usually include IIS and MSSQL which must be installed first). After that, setup is easy and there is a wizard. You will have to make your site look how you want it but everything is template based so you can choose and switch the look of the whole site in a few seconds, the same is true for your users who make websites. If you go to the iRadek Software website there is a widget and template kit to use to make more templates and widgets etc. SoNET is stable and doesn't crash or cause errors so that is good too. Mainly I would recommend this to people who want to try and run a small Social Network to generate money from subscribers (not hard to do at all if you have a good topic for the network like, medical or photography). Also, this is useful for clubs and families that want a secure private space with all the same features as you get on the big public networks. Good product, worth the price and you get tons more than with the alternatives. The FREE version is also a full version but you can only have 25 websites, which btw was what I used to make enough money to get the 500 site version I use for work now and I am doing pretty good and will upgrade to the 2K version soon.
