• Not worth the money, time, or effort.

  A noble attempt at a difficult problem but...

  It doesn't work. At least, it didn't for me. My handwriting isn't perfect but it's plenty legible, but not to this software.

  Summary

  Tried multiple different software settings (dpi, direct scan into software or imported .tif or .jpg file, TWAIN settings, 1 mm diameter lead mechanical pencil on unlined paper, fine-point pen on lined paper) and never got a usable document. Not even close. Typical results: <1% of written words correctly recognized; ~30% came out as English words, just not the right ones; the rest were pure gibberish. I don't have the time it would take to train the software. It would be faster to retype the text myself. Bottom line: if you don't have grammar-school-perfect handwriting and lots of time, don't waste your money.

• Still Not Stable

  Free trial download of Softwriting seemed to perform surprisingly well for the price... but:

  Unfortunately, once I installed the full version, SoftWriting became nearly useless due to error messages and failure to read. Today I'm waiting for tech support to respond to my email, to explain how I can prevent SoftWriting from displaying a "JUSTICR.DLL" error message, then hanging half way thru a document scan. (Hmmmm... JUSTICR.DLL is the *exact* same DLL another user complained about, way back in 2003!). Thank you for that warning - too bad I didnt heed it! I should have purchased Omnipage.

  I've never had an OCR software before but i did not expect this to work at all because of the reviews so far but i tried it anywayz and it works great! i love it, and i will definitly use it

  I used it to scan a catalog from our wholesaler and output it into word files. I worked good, it didn't keep the page formating, but it gave me all the text, and that's what I wanted. It was inaccurate about 3-5% of the time, when it would confuse an S for a 5 and things like that, but all the ones it did mess up like that the text from the scan was a bit blury, so it's understandable.

  I was looking through the specs for this product, and it had all the features I wanted. Reasonably priced, ocr from scanner, israeli company, etc... Too bad it doesn't actually work. Maybe they'll fix it in the next version.

• Errors upon errors and i'm not a computer novice

  I gave this product a download. It's junk. It installed fine on my WinXP Home and scanned using my Lexmark X73 but it generated application errors left and right trying to convert the scan to text. Here is one of the errors: Access violation at address 10031Ba9 in module 'justicr.dll'. Read of address 00000067 Come on guys you can't let the application bomb on a standard function. I do not recommend this product. I am uninstalling right now. PS - I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried to "add new page" to test another page and that failed as well with a memory violation. I wasn't even scanning hand written text, just some news articles for a client. Ugg..
