Resource hog. Requires constant access to harddrive, RAM, CPU, and network(IS provider allowing that is) in order to function, and uses invalid keyloggers to attempt to match software to available updates, from sites that are often unreliable. Main problem, adds exception to firewall and antivirus in order to function, then downloads viruses in place of/attatched to unreliable updates from unvarified sites thus causing considerable damage to the operating system and, at times, the BIOS which in some cases have made repair impossible.
Summary
Do not download this software in any hope that it will, at any point, work effectively. It should be immediatley removed from DownLoad.cnet.com.

DANGER DANGER DANGER.. this will slow your machine down... Good luck deleting this off your machine... I contacted the company and we still are playing tag... they are unaware this stuff is offered on CNET. Here's part of what they said "this is exactly what boggles us: no one has ever reported similar problems with removing 'Software Informer' before. The whole process has always been the same: Add/Remove Programs -> Remove Software Informer -> Would you like to keep your settings? -> No. -> Good bye. And we're genuinely wondering what could have gone wrong." "And a bit confused about your saying it pops up adverts. There's never been a single one in it, either. Would you please point us to the page on CNET which you got 'Software Informer' from?" Amazing.
Great idea, but doesn't work well

It's free and if you like frustration, you'll like this.

Reliability of scans and subsequent update information is fairly terrible.
Summary
Sent me on several "wild goose chases" - very frustrating. In one instance it said I had an Intel driver in need of updating & when I went to Intel, they said that driver is incompatible with my machine. I then checked with Toshiba (my laptops brand) and their website did not offer that driver for my model either. Therefore: inaccurate scans & update info = a complete waste of time.
