SJ Screen Saver for Mac acts as a screen saver and locker, allowing you to set hot keys, as well as limitations on the number of attempts necessary to unlock the screen. It works well but isn't indispensable.

Mac turns off after reaching the maximum number of password retries: Once your Mac shuts down, the active application also exits. Everything goes back to normal after a restart. Also, a shutdown means that the running programs you've left open are forcibly closed, possibly causing data loss.

No significant functionality added: Mac already has its built-in screen saver feature that can also serve as a locking tool.

Bottom Line

SJ Screen Saver can replace the built-in Mac screen saver. However, installing it does not add anything significant to your computer. What's more, the standard Mac screen saver has more features, including the ability to turn the display off, put the hard disks to sleep, and enable Power Nap.
