This free program offers a no-nonsense approach to converting PDFs to text. While some users may want more options, Simpo PDF to Text's simple user interface will appeal to novices, and it provided a clean output.

Simpo PDF to Text's user interface is as simple as it gets. Though it does offer an online User Guide, even the most novice user will be able to jump right in without hesitation. The program doesn't offer drag-and-drop functionality, but using the basic commands in the small window, we were able to quickly add the PDFs we wanted to convert to text. From there, we selected our destination location and clicked the Convert button. Our PDF was instantly converted into a text file. Though it failed to save our formatting, the text file was clean and didn't throw in any weird characters, a common problem with less capable conversion programs. You won't find some of the more common conversion options, such as the ability to convert single pages or selections, or the ability to convert PDFs to other file types, such as a Word document or Excel spreadsheet, but there is an option to apply a password to protect your document. Unfortunately, not all testers were able to get the password feature to work.

Despite the password glitch and lack of options, this program converted our PDFs quickly and without any issues. If you're looking for a simple way to extract PDF text, we recommend this very basic, but capable, program.

Absolute load of rubbish

I ran this program on several pdf files that had clear displayable text. The result was text sure, however punctuation had it confused so the program inserted random code characters instead. So I went manually into a pdf, copy and pasted into notepad and THAT came out flawless.
Summary
Don't waste your time with this rubbish software. The above reviews are questionable at best - either that or they are from people with limited exposure to conversion software.

Pros
Looking for a program to convert to text and keep the format as well as possible. This was the third program tested and it did was I wanted.

Need to put something here, I guess. But cannot think of 'cons' as program did what I was looking for.

Pros
I have had poor experiences with other PDF to text converters, but I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED at the performance of Simpo! I converted an 8,000 pages PDF file in seconds and the text output are amazingly true to the original !! Great product.

None that I could find.

I just now installed Simpo PDF to Text 1.0. My first file conversion was a huge PDF which converted very quickly (in a few seconds).
