SheerPower 4GL is the Next Generation Programming Language for Windows. SheerPower is a full development language, but shares many advantages with scripting languages -- such as ultra-fast development speeds and ease of learning the language. Trying to reinvent the wheel?

You'll UNINSTALL this after 5 minutes of FAILING to run one of the sample program.
Cons
(1) Claim it's a 2MB download but after installation it creates a 16MB file that's used for the IIS interface. (2) GUI looked like it was whipped up overnight. Labels and textboxes are not aligned. Some of the settings don't work.(3) Very unstable. Crashes alot.(4) The error message boxes are so corny. (5) Creating the DB ARS file is so complicated and very cluttered because of the DB GUI. (6) If you're planning to use it then might as well buy yourself a terminal machine because that is what the screen looks like. (7) Last but not least please remove the words "Advanced", "Cutting-Edge Technology", "Enterprise-Level", and "High-End" Software because I don't see it in this or any other software products on their main site. Especially when you're talking about DECs/VAX and VMS. Obsolete, Stone-age, gargabe.

On their website it says: "Award-Winning", "ARS Database is faster than any commercial database", "Advanced", "Cutting-Edge Technology", etc. <p> <p>After doing some extensive research for my company I've found all of this to be a bunch of SHEERCRAP. <p> <p>And your right, all of the positive feedbacks are from the creators themselves.

There are better freeware tools out there. As a C, C++, and Informix 4GL programmer, I'm always on the lookout for new, cutting edge tools to simplify the software development process, and reduce time to market. SheerPower is not that tool. The "development environment" is nothing more than a glorified text editor. And the SheerPower language is laughable in terms of structure, syntax, and readability. If you are looking for a truly professional 4GL language (that can produce standalone executables for both Windows and Unix) then check out the open-source Aubit4GL.

Pros
This product is great for writing web data scrapers. I can write a quick scraping app in minutes, faster than any other programming tool or language.
Cons
Apart from quick and dirty scraping apps, this software is just about useless for building any sort of serious business application.

Summary
This product is a God-send to any programmer that loved the good old days of programming! If you use dBase/Clipper/Clarion and finally want to migrate this is for you! We have decided to develop exclusively in this package because its a dream. Its not a spaghetti code creator and its math knocks the socks off any competitor. Its reasonably priced and offers unsurpassed data manipulation techniques. Support is great. If you understand scripting and write "scripts" and find "object" programming a joke - I implore you to ASM on down and take a look.

Summary
I've taught lots programming languages, at the university level, in the past 20 years. Everyghing from Assembler, Fortran-77 to C++. But, I have never come across a language that defied the basic principle of programming, until now. Sheerpower does not conform to any standard. The language is chopped up BASIC. Passing parameters in a function "routine" is unorthodox. It doesn't suport "recursion". I can go on and on. In fact this whole language is unorthodox. If anyone learns this language, you are going to be alone. The structure, design and syntax is incompatible with any other programming languages. You will have a serious handicap when you try to learn more mainstream languages like BASIC, Java, C/C++ etc. Your knowledge wouldn't be transferable. Also, the built in database, ARS, is exclusive to Sheerpower. I've never heard of ARS. It's not a relational database like MS SQL or Oracle, which are world standards today. It's just flat file. Some have complained about the interface. I must agree, it's not solid and friendly. It's missing many key tools that are common today. The debugger is a joke. I would never trust nor would I recommend writing commercial software using this FREE development tool. You get what you pay for. This language has too many drawbacks.

Here's how you can tell if the product is good. Just look at their website and if it's cheaply made then you'll know that the products offered are not good. I'm a 25 year software developer in California and used many different tools and by far this is the worst one.
