Shazam "listens" to the music playing around you from nearly any source and then provides you with information on the particular song, artist, album, and more. Through this app, you can identify specific tracks, look up similar music to try, and see what your friends are listening to.

Pros

Lots of info: Just hold your phone close to a music source for a few seconds to access just about anything you'd want to know about whatever is playing. Once Shazam identifies a track, it displays links for places to purchase the song, like iTunes, or to listen for free, like Spotify and Rdio. Also included in the report are lyrics, a link to a YouTube video, a list of recommended similar songs, the bio of the artist or group, and information about its next concert.

Nice social aspect: If you log in to Shazam through Facebook, you can see which of your Facebook friends have used the service, what they were listening to, and when. This is a good way to find new music to try if you're stuck in a rut.

Cons

Occasional freezing: The app did freeze a couple of times during testing. That was the only performance issue we had with it, however.

Bottom Line

Shazam is a fun app to play around with. Whether you just really need to know the name of a song playing in a coffee shop, or you want to find a new artist to try, Shazam is a handy tool that can help.

Shazam is basically one of the reasons why I ever take my smartphone out of my pocket (besides actual calling, of course)! Works smoothly, recognizes practically everything.
Cons
Is sensitive to any kind of noise, that's why fails to recognize music if a place is a bit too noisy.

In general - I just love it!
Amazing. One of the best free apps I have.

Overall the programs great at picking up music = no problem there
Cons
Can't export your tags to an email or list without jail breaking = total crap. Why do i have to post to FB to get a tag list? (rhetorical question) Further, at least in my case, the number of tags on my phone (48) do not match my online account (1).

I'd give it 5 stars easily if not for the Cons

There was a tune I knew, but didn't know the song name. It hasn't been on the radio, but it has been stuck in my head FOREVER now. I tried to hum it to "Shazam", but it couldn't pick it up. Other than that, it rules.
