• It Does the Job

  Pros

  This cloned Win8.1 and some Apps to a new SDD. It allowed me to pick which folders I wanted to clone and then did it's work flawlessly. All cloned apps worked just fine on the SSD. Too, I appreciate the trial offer.

  Cons

  Although I can run apps from the SSD, I cannot boot from it even though I selected "Make It Bootable" from the options. In all honesty, I believe it is a mistake I am making. Either something I did or failed to do. But the SSD is not listed as a option in the boot menu which recognizes a bootable USB when installed. Still, I'm willing to give Shadow Copy Cloner the benefit of the doubt. Particularly since it worked for getmeek. My main reason for rating the at 4 stars rather than 5 is the price. This is a program I would use very, very seldom. So for me, it's not worth the price. I could accomplish the same thing by simply installing Win8.1 and a few programs on the SSD. For me, this is more a convenince than a necessity.

  Summary

  This is a good product that works. If you foresee multiple uses or complicated installation, it might be a good tool for you.

• This actually creates a bootable clone of Windows

  Pros

  It creates a clone of Windows that actually works, unlike my experience with Acronis Trueimage and other programs that claim to perform that function. It creates clone directly on the target disk, with no need to create an image and then restore it.

  Cons

  The running log shows many files that are not copied. So far, those files do not appear to be needed for the clone to function.

  Summary

  I have tried just about all of the programs that claim to create bootable clones of Windows. The last one that worked well was XXClone, but development on that stopped with Windows XP. The difference with Shadow Copy Cloner is that it actually worked to create a bootable clone of Windows 7. I have spent hours on technical support trying to get other products to work, without success. With Shadow Copy Cloner, the first clone of the boot drive took a long time, because is it apparently copying filie-by-file. On my system, the first clone took 14 hours. But later that week the incremental clone took only 15 minutes to complete. A key feature is that it creates the clone directly on the target disk, with no need to create an image and then restore it. The routine of "create image - restore image" is both time-consuming and unreliable. Think about it. If your regular boot drive fails, how are you going to restore the image? You have to boot from a CDROM and try to restore the image to a new drive. Will it work? You will not know until you try it. For me, this routine simply did not work, no matter how many times I told the Windows 7 installation disk to "repair" the new drive to make it bootable. But Shadow Copy Cloner worked.
