This is a comprehensive backgammon game with a choice of challenging computer opponents. Extensive choice of rules includes domino backgammon: a new variation that replaces the dice with dominoes and allows players to think ahead instead of relying on the roll of the dice. Now includes seven extra backgammon variations and four backgammon challenges: series of matches against progressively improving computer opponents.
Introduces you to a wide variety of backgammon games
Cons
Cheats almost constantly --- whether you know how to play or not (for you arrogant a-h's out there).
A WASTE of money.

BarrelsOfFun
Pros
It plays backgammon
Cons
This is a howling cheat!
Keep a table of roll probabilities handy and watch the fun.
Prove it to yourself.
Get "backed into a corner," open the editor, and roll yourself doubles to get out (cheat, in other words). This thing will respond in kind --- almost always --- by cheating in return. The circumstances are irrelevant --- it can, and does cheat.
Check your probability tables against the number of times "it" needs to have a specific roll to bail out of a corner.
And yes, I know how to play.
BTW --- the only more maddening wreck of this game I've played is on Win7. We call it "Obarackgammon" because it refuses to let you ahead if you're better than your opponent. It "levels" things.
So, if you really want to hammer your head against a wall and see just how frustrating this game can be made, waaste your bucks and go for it.

Wildly statistically improbable

Pros
When it's in "fair cycle" it's an excellently functioning game. (This is version 1.24)
Cons
I can't count the number of times I've filled all but one point on my backboard, only to have this thing continually roll the one count that gets it off the bar. I mean, 8 matches, and having it happen six times in a row in each game? (Some of the roll combinations are highly "predictable," as well.
My uncle, an actuary, watched this thing and said if he were playing poker with it, he'd shoot it. It really is kind of humorous at times. You can write down the computer's rolls before it makes them.
What it needs is a constantly-changing random seed.

always "gets the right rolls"

Pros
Cons
like most computer games that rely on the roll of the dice. this program seems to "get" the roll it needs. so it can be frustrating at times to be aggressive and leave one stone all by it's lonesome. I've counted and 8 of 10 times on average it will get the necessary roll to put you on the bar. Too bad

Summary
This game does not cheat.

Pros
If you play backgammon well, you can position your pieces to take advantage of what is statistically likely to be rolled. This means that a better player will almost always "seem" luckier. The hardest setting isn't cheating, it just plays well.

If you're looking for a real backgammon challenge, give this a try.

Computer opponent is too lucky eh?

Pros
Cons
As other reviewers have stated before me the dice rolls of the computer opponent are a little too lucky to keep this game enjoyable. Surely dice rolls should be random like in real life eh? Rubbish.

Dubious Dice Rolls...
Pros
Cons
Summary
it seems that the only difference between hard/easy settings is the "luckiness" of the cpu's dice rolls. I've never rolled that many doubles when I was behind, but somehow, the cpu does it. If it asks you if you accept the doubling cube on hardest, that's when the really lucky rolls for the computer start, so watch out!
Great Variations For Good Play
Pros
Cons
Summary
Some variations I have never seen before, and good practice for improvement in your play. I like the analysis (this costs big $ in jf), sounds, and overall appearance. Algorithms not as top class as some bg games, meaning even an average player like me feels like a worldbeater :0) Maybe I'm better than I thought! It definitely DOESN'T cheat though. On 'hardest' setting, it still makes many 'mistakes' compared with jf. Maybe a start up help page, pointing out what's what could be of help, but altogether a great addition to the realm of backgammon playing software. A big thumbs up for me!

Summary
Geez, all we need is ANOTHER cheating backgammon. I AM an experienced player and this game seems to have alot of very lucky rolls. Will ALWAYS put you on the bar and will ALWAYS get itself off the bar.
The graphics, sound and playabilty is very good...it just CHEATS.
Very dissapointing!!!!!!!
It has potential if they fix it to play right!!!
