Editors’ Review
SecureCrypt Ultimate Edition is yet another addition to the free file encryption genre, but it offers nothing that sets it apart from the many others.
The program has a colorful user interface that is easy to understand, but the overall layout isn't very professional-looking. There are six command icons and one Help button. Only one of the command buttons pertains to encrypting and decrypting files. The rest take you to the publisher's site, checks for updates, or uninstalls the program. When we clicked the Encrypt or Decrypt button, we were asked which technique we wanted to use--File Key or Password Key. Both techniques successfully encrypted our files. Decrypting files is just as simple. You won't find any algorithm or source file options with SecureCrypt.
This free program works as a basic file encryption program and might appeal to novices, but most users will probably want more options. We used the program's uninstall feature, but it still left some program files that had to be manually removed.
