Controlling the data exchange process between the device and the computer, logging and structuring serial data into a database--that's the brief common task list of any automation engineer. This allows you to build a full-featured real-time data gathering system, requesting dozens of RS232 devices and storing information into an ODBC database, such as Oracle or Access, or put the info directly to a target application via DDE and OLE support. Even if the destination is a DOS-application--RS232 Logger AX still can transfer the serial port data to it by sending key strokes.
