Audio-file converters don't get any simpler than the freeware River Past Wave@MP3. Using its bare-bones application window, you just browse to a WAV file and start the conversion; by default, the output file goes into the same folder as the original. The program also can convert MP3s to WAVs. Clicking Play opens the converted file with your default media player. Converting a 1MB file to MP3 took us about five seconds, which doesn't leave much room for improvement. But the lack of configurable features means you have no control over the output parameters. Anyone with the slightest interest in tweaking their audio will want to look elsewhere. Also, the program lacks batch-conversion abilities, so don't plan on using it for entire directories. Otherwise, River Past Wave@MP3 offers little to praise or criticize. It's fast, free, and simple to a fault. We recommend it for occasional users.
my antivir antivirus program detected a trojan in it !!!

Pros
very convenient n easy!
Cons
except the design of the converter, otherwise it's really no cons at all.
Summary
Waste of my time.

Pros
Fortunately, its quick to download, install, and most importantly uninstall.
Cons
Only works on one file at a time. In the time wasted on doing one file at a time, the programmer could have programmed it to work on batches of files about five times. What the?
Summary
not for big files, apparently

Pros
Simple, professional install (and uninstall). Free. Try it and if it doesn't work you can get rid of it.
Cons
Choked on big MP3 files. I tried to convert MP3 to WAV after demuxing a 1hr video file, no go. It crashes mid-stream. Maybe fine for short tracks, but didn't work for me.
Summary
Smooth, fast, intuitive and free. What more could I ask for?

Pros
I never even had to read the instructions; the Browse button is obvious in function and works like any Windows browse button. You find your pre-recorded .wav and hit the 'Convert' button and you're done!

I was looking for something to convert WMA files (from WMP 9) to something like MP3 so I could normalise it with Cool Edit 2000 (it doesn't recognise WMA as headered waveform). Downloaded thedB Power AMP converter but will keep this.

I must have downloaded a half dozen apps to do a simple job of converting WAV files to MP3s, retaining their sound quality. This simple app was the only one to pull it off. Yahoo!
Recommand it, but with patience

Summary
The program is easy to use, but the only negative point i discovered until now is when you convert from a WAV to MP3 on your hard disk, it's one file at the time. But with patience you can get far.
