Keeping track of a small business is nearly always a challenge, but those in the party rental and event planning industry face special difficulties, especially in managing large inventories of small items that must be constantly grouped and regrouped in different ways for a wide variety of clients who nevertheless have a few things in common, like big plans and high expectations for their events. If that sounds like your life (and headaches) then RentMaster is for you. It's a rental-based inventory and business management tool optimized specifically for the party, event, and special occasion trade, with a plethora of inventory items already entered, but it also makes it easy to enter your own items.

RentMaster opens with a clean and simple dialog interface, just a main window, menu bar, task bar, and sidebar. It focuses on five functions, logically laid out in the natural progression of business: Quotes, Orders, Customers, Inventory, and Reports and Statistics. Tabs expand your options in each category with selections for Inventory, Sets, Products, and Categories. Clicking on any tab calls up related Tips in a sidebar to the right of the main window. Selecting Reports and Statistics lets you easily produce and print everything from business statistics to mailing labels and rental agreements.

The fully functional trial version of RentMaster is free to use for 30 days, after which it's $995 to purchase. However, if you need it, it can pay for itself in no time, and it might be deductible as a business expense.

Version 4.0.1 adds support for electronic signatures, supply sets, vehicle/staff scheduling, scheduling tasks, synchronizing events with Google Calendar, Google Maps, support for 80+ credit card processing gateways.

Great customizability. Fantastic support.

Pros
We use RentMaster to manage our camera rental department. This kind of rental is often last minute, has frequent changes to an order, and tracks some very expensive inventory. RentMaster has really helped make this a less stressful and more efficient process. The two keys for us have been the customizability (as you can imagine camera rentals require a lot of very specific fields and workflows) and the support. We've run into problems (of our own making, not the software's fault) several times and Garik and the support team at RentMaster have been incredibly helpful. I know it sounds like a bit of an exaggeration but I have literally never received such good support from any software vendor. By that specifically I mean that the support team knows the software incredibly well, are very friendly, and are very fast/responsive.
Cons
I can't think of any cons. No program is perfect, but this one is very stable and has been hassle free.
Summary
It's a "boring" part of the business that we use every day (like Excel or gMail). It works. It works well. It works reliably. What more could you want?

Pros
Easy to use. Easy to learn. Easy to keep track of an ongoing business. The program stores a lot of information, it is easy to sort information to keep track of how the business is doing.
Cons
Only wish it had a line for what time the party starts instead of the unneccesary Fax phone number or pager number.
Summary
I love the fact that I can't double order an item for the same time of the event. If you do this by paper, you will double order items and then you have to call one of your customers to tell them that they have to pick something else.
Entry level product that works. Simple way to operate a rental business.

Pros
Not very complex, easy to use, fast to learn, very low price compared to more full featured packages, good mapping capability, invoicing is simple, easy to set up, excellent support services from the programmer. <p> <p>For an entry level product, this is a huge improvement over doing business by hand. The excellent support makes up for missing modules, and the price break is just right for this level of program. Most rental business companies which are small operations who have not bought a high end software package for rentals, could probably benefit from this program. Some companies which invested in higher end software that is too complex might benefit from going to the simplicity of this program - it is pretty straight forward.
Cons
It is not a full featured small business program. For instance it has no modules such as accounting, marketing, task lists, project planning, staff scheduling.

Pros
Very useful for my business. Definetly saves a lot of time compared to manual scheduling. And it's very easy to use - I started using it without even looking at the help file. Emailing rental contract and priting driving directions using mapquest.com are very useful features. I used to spend hours typing addresses on mapquest.
