Terrible OCR which makes it almost useless

It rarely picks up the amounts from the receipts (and even more rarely does it pick up the dates) and on the odd occasion it finds an amount it's WRONG! Not only do you have to manually correct / populate the info for almost every receipt but if you were to miss an incorrect amount it would be stored like that making it useless. This could even screw you up at tax time if you went with the wrong number. We?re not talking a matter of cents here either. Many receipts I scanned were OCR at $1 when the amount was something like $84.97. In other cases it was picking up numbers that were not even on the receipt. It picked up an amount of $77.77... I don?t even think there were any 7?s on the receipt anywhere!!! If you want to use this for OCR stay far far away. Otherwise it might be ok, but if I have to enter all the info manually I will just do it once in my Billings3 software (to track expenses) and be done with it. No sense in trying to use this to automatically input receipts if you have to type them all in anyways. Might as well just scan them into a folder for a backup copy and use any other piece of software to manually enter the amounts. Sure you would have the searchable info (amounts, merchant, dates, etc) attached to the images of the receipts, but is it really worth doubling up on your efforts and having that stuff spread across two pieces of software just to try and save some time with OCR that doesn?t work? I don?t think so. Billings3 and other programs can link up to external files (aka the receipt you scanned) so why add another app just to do the same thing and double your work load?

I now have ScanSnap and it's just great. The only problem that I'm having with ReceiptWallet is when I do a Report and include the Tax information, the sum total is way off the mark. It does not give me a true total.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I was excited when I read about ReceiptWallet and straight away contacted them, they recommended the Pentax DSmobile 600 scanner for best results and I was on my way. The first receipt is where I have lost all excitement and the receiptwallet team's attitude is well, not our fault and that it's the scanner driver (that they recommended!). Here are my problems: 1) Auto crop quite often crops part of my receipt. 2) The software fails miserably with receipts with a colour background like B&Q receipts. 3) OCR rarely finds anything at all, and when it does it doesn't fill in anything useful (tried with hundreds of different receipts and never had a single field in a single receipt filled in correctly). 4) No auto rotate (straighten). 5) Very limited export features, no way for me to get a receipt over to my accountant. 6) Even if I'm trying to scan a small staples receipt, the scanner will try to scan a full A4 page - I'm just sitting there waiting for the scanner to finish long after the receipt is out of the scanner. Save yourself the pain and misery and look else where, I'm currently evaluating NeatReceipts and ScanSnap and neither of those have any of the above listed problems from what I can find so far. Stay far far away!

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />seems like a great idea, but i would rather have something that creates folders with each receipt in them, loose the dwlibrary file and you loose it all? 39.95 seems like a lot for just an organizer if you need to keep the paper copies as backups, or organize your own folders with the pdf's you had to create on your own, and then what's the point of using this also as mentioned by another user it keeps crashing on initial scan (epson v500 perfection)

Not only does it make ReceiptWallet much more powerful, it just gave me DocumentWallet for FREE! This application is so useful for storing receipts for taxes. I find it the MOST useful application come tax time of any I have ever tried to help me manage my records. It's elegant.

Among many, many welcome changes, the inclusion of Document Wallet into the program adds one stop shopping for adding receipts and non-receipt related information. I was fully expecting this to be a paid upgrade, and was prepared to contribute again. The fact that it was release as a free upgrade to existing users solidly underlines the developer's commitment to the user base. This is a first class program and company.

Throw away your shoebox, clean out your desk drawer, empty your file folder: ReceiptWallet stores and organizes those receipts in handy PDF files. It uses the iTunes-like Library to organize everything. You can create smartfolders to store receipts for this week, last week, this month, last month, this year, etc. These are predefined in the preferences. You can also organize by smart catagories: groceries, auto expenses, insurance, and so on. I love this program. It is stable, is updated regularly, and is a joy to use.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This software does an excellent job at: digitizing your receipts (or using receipts you create from online purchases through a simple print command) AND collecting them in a meaningful manner, as well as making the process of creating reimbursement slips really much less time-consuming. Especially the smart collections are very useful. Simple set up your user-definable categories in a way that let you indicate the need to submit the receipts or use the dates to do the same trick. Then export the lot. Open it in Excel or a similar software to create a list if you need to. Or simply email the receipts to your finance department. The developer is EXTREMELY responsive (the big bonus of shareware) and gets things done. Yes, it is an early version, but it works and continues to add functions. The developer has also announced that it will soon be possible to print the data directly out of ReceiptWallet (in addition to copies of the actual receipts), so there won't be a need to go through Excel anymore. Why nobody has come up with something like this before is beyond me. It is true, you could do many things this software does with a freebie such as Yep. And trust me, I have tried. But the BIG advantage of ReceiptWallet is the fact that you can add specific data that is relevant for the purpose it deems to manage: receipts. Not other files. Just receipts. So I end up using this one in addition to Yep (and other software). I have spent so much time figuring out what I have sent out for reimbursement and what not (or when), so doing the job right with this software will save you tons of time. In addition you can store your receipts for insurance purposes, or for rebates or warranty. It's very fast and a joy to use. If you have used iTunes, you are right at home. Give a try. Don't just add one or two receipts, but, say, 12 or 15 and try the smart collections. You won't be going back again to your old way. It is a bit early days, so some stability issues do (and may) arise, but the receipts themselves are rock-solid PDFs that can be found and accessed on your harddrive and not stored in some weird database.
