• Best program for patching image arrays

  Pros

  I needed a program to stitch, sometimes numerous, digital images taken with a microscope. Previously, I had patched them by hand with Photoshop, which was tedious and time-consuming. I tried other photo stitching programs, but they didn't seem able to cope with more than a few images at a time. PTGui can take an array of many images(I have patched upwards of 40 images), and, if there are any distinguishing features, arrange them correctly and smooth out differences between adjacent images. In some montages, of for example root sections, there may be numberous sections which are very nearly alike. In that case the program may make a cockup of putting them in the right order. You can then manually match common points on overlapping adjacent images. I understand that more modern versions of Photoshop can do the same, but that program costs in the hundreds of pounds (or dollars).
