An advanced, easy-to-use monitoring solution for your entire network. The software's features include: up/downtime monitoring, traffic and usage monitoring, packet sniffing, failover clustering, in-depth analysis and concise reporting. A user-friendly web-based interface allows users to quickly auto-discover and configure the network devices and sensors they wish to monitor. All common methods for acquiring network usage data are supported: SNMP and WMI, Packet Sniffing and NetFlow / sFlow / jFlow. It also offers SMTP/IMAP Roundtrip-Email Monitoring and VMware Monitoring, VoIP Monitoring, Toplists for Packet Sniffing and Netflow Sensors, as well as sensor aggregation using its built-in Sensor Factory. PRTG Network Monitor includes more than 200 sensor types for all common network services (e.g. PING, HTTP, SMTP, POP3, FTP, SSH etc.), allowing users to monitor networks for availability, speed and failures. As soon as an outage occurs, alerts are sent via email, SMS, pager messages and other means. Request times and downtimes are recorded in an internal database, making it easy to compile performance, downtime and SLA reports. Monitoring, reporting and notifications can be automatically scheduled at specific times. High Availabiltiy is guaranteed by the innovative failover cluster, and remote probes can be used for easy multi-location monitoring. Network maps can be created which provide users with a unique visual network management tool. PRTG Network Monitor's Freeware Edition is completely free for personal and commercial use. The Commercial Editions are required if you want to monitor more than ten sensors.

Too expensive tool It was slow in some operations A couple of times I experienced the problem with deleting remote probe from PRTG console and got the error (Http/1.1 400 Bad Request). Though I was using the newest version of PRTG, they couldn't find the right solution for a week.

Pros
-Supports Netflow, so most networking equipment can export data to it(e.g.: Cisco, MicroTik, Vyatta, HP, pfSense) -Brings real-time network health and monitoring (even including CPU/RAM/Disk usage on servers) into the price range of small offices -It's an enterprise solution that scales very well -Super easy to use and create reports on -Even monitors uptime if you need proof of uptime If you haven't tried this out, I definitely recommend it. It has a super simple set-up, offers password and https protection for the web GUI, and is very intuitive, plus it's free to try on 10 sensors.
Cons
The only (and I mean ONLY) complaint I have is that there's not a purchase price for a certain number of sensors withOUT support. They only offer packages with a maintenance program, and some of my clients are happy without the maintenance part.
Summary
Overall, it's a FANTASTIC product! We use it at my company, and we recommend it to all of our clients. 10/10 would recommend.

Easy To use, Lots of automation features, FULL FEATURED 10 Sensors for the free version, VERY LOW overhead of memory on machines. Runs great on Physical/Virtual HIGHLY stable ! Great idea of sensor settings inheritance by group. I use this at work and at home !

None.. Unless you consider being awesome a con.. then your a hipster.

Pros
Allows us to monitor our entire backend infrastructure. It might take a bit, but it is flexible enough to monitor any process or stat we have thrown at it.
Cons
It can be cumbersome to setup, but all tools like this are.
Summary
Constant updates. Actively supported web and mobile application interfaces. I am always seeing new and exciting features added. Pros
The easiest interface I've used for network monitoring. I have a 40" LCD rotating maps in my office, as well as a system wide starburst map on my computer at all times. The apps for smartphone and tablet put it in a field of its own. I can monitor everything from my tablet.
Cons
initial setup can be taxing, but that's no fault of the software. Map creation is odd at first, but when it clicks, it's natural.
Summary
This has become the most important resource I have. The foresight and power it gives you as a network admin are priceless. It has shifted how our department works. We went from reactive to proactive, and it has enhanced our position with the company and user base.
A must for network admins!

Pros
PRTG is a must if you want to be proactive with your network. Without network monitoring/paging capabilities, we would be stuck with our clients informing us of slowness/issues.. Hardware doesn't last forever, so it's important to get notified prior/during a failure, and PRTG does the job.
Cons
Agreed with the last comment.. There's many sensors and I found myself "overdoing it". I cut back on unnecessary sensors that way I can monitor what's really important.
Summary
Don't listen to PC_Hamster's review, clearly he/she doesn't have any experience in setting up PRTG. If the installer crashes that persons PC, then there's something wrong with PC. Been a PRTG customer for years and I'm very pleased.

One might get tempted to "over-monitor" ones network at first because of the countless number of possibilities.
Summary
We have been using PRTG for the past three or four years to offer our customers 24/7 monitoring of their networks, some of which are dispersed all over the globe. PRTG comes with a vast array of default sensors for monitoring all sorts of things from system health status and resource usage to services and database performance. Nonetheless it also offers the flexibility of adding your own custom sensors (the creation of which has become one of our proficiencies).

Cons
takes a while to setup all SNMP objects as you'd like; but thats hardly PRTG's fault
