This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Had a problem with the print queue stalling when printing from iPhoto 6.0.4 on an iMac G5 (10.4.6) to an Epson CX4600 connected via USB. Printing from TextEdit worked fine. Epson tech support's instructions for resetting the printer system, and deleting/reinstalling their drivers from the Tiger DVD were accurate but failed to fix the problem. Happened across PSR and decided to give it a go. Which step it was that fixed things, I'm not sure (I suspect the deletion of the various .plist files was the ultimate key) but fix things it did. I may have eventually Googled up enough information to let me identify what and where all the relevant possible culprits might have been, but you can't grok it all with just three days effort. Tools like this are important contributions. Fix-a-Mac went to the effort to understand the intricacies of the OS X printing system in sufficient detail so that we can have a sufficiently large hammer with a helpful interface and clear documentation. $25 heading your way from a grateful 'family sysadmin'. I used it to do a complete reset, told it to make a backup file etc, then I went out of town for awhile with my printer issues unresolved. I was going to make another attempt, but the program has "expired" leaving me with no way to use it without buying it. Sorry, you don't get my money...now I am having major headaches with the other printer I got because evidently your little "reset" damaged or removed some files needed for printing...can't even run the Printer Utility to clean and align cartridges, apparently because some vital files were removed that can't be restored without BUYING your stupid app. Well your "demo" messed things up worse than if I had been frogging around removing files manually. Thanks for the JUNK. DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM.

Long story short, my printing system on my mac was broken at the root. I had tried everything, and had decided to buy a replacement system. ...price!!<br />This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Great Tool! Saved me from having to Archive and reinstall OSX. And we all know that Apple recomends you reinstall all your applications as well :-( PSR told me 2 CUPS files and a CUPS Directory were missing. Fortunately I have access to another Mac running 10.4.2 and copied the missing files over and voila... everythings works again. This is a well thought out program both in design and layout. It takes a very complicated part of your Mac's OS and makes it accessable to maintenance and repair for all users. The Manual is a must read if you plan to use PSR but it's well written, short and easy to understand. And educational... I had no idea all this was going on behind the scenes. A must have utility for anyones arsenal. Thanks Guys!

Printer Setup Repair is designed to rectify situations where the Printer Setup Utility will not open, printers cannot be added, CUPS fails to operate, and numerous other errors. Although Printer Setup Repair cannot fix every printing problem, it is capable of resolving most of the common ones. Printer Setup Repair can also be used to delete unwanted printer drivers, remove a build up of spool files, recreate the /tmp symbolic link, and backup / restore the printing system.Printer Setup Repair allows the user to do the following:

Backup and restore the printing system
Verify and recreate the root user
Verify and recreate the lp user
Verify and recreate the lp group
Verify and repair the Printer Setup Utility file permissions
Verify and repair the /System/Library directory permissions
Verify and repair the CUPS directories
Verify and repair the /Library directory permissions
Verify and repair the home user Library directories
Reset the Printer Setup Utility
Delete CUPS spool files
Verify and repair the /private/tmp directory
