Used PixName for Windows?
Editors’ Review
Anyone who uses a digital camera with any regularity knows that tools to help you manage and organize your images are a necessity, and that there are plenty of options to choose from. PixName is a tool that specializes in renaming images and organizing them by date. Although for the most part it performed as it was supposed to, it's neither the most powerful nor the easiest-to-use program of this sort that we've seen.
PixName's interface was not particularly intuitive or attractive, and we had to consult the Help file several times to figure out how to use it. We were grateful that the program's many buttons came with tooltips, but they still weren't enough to fully explain how the program worked. After some experimentation we figured out how to import images with the program, batch rename them, and retrieve them from a date-based organizational structure. The MemoPix feature allows users to save collections of tags for future use, which is handy. There are also basic editing tools, such as red-eye correction and the ability to flip and rotate images, as well as a tool that prepares images to be e-mailed by reducing their size. A slideshow feature lets users view either individual images or sets of thumbnails. We were a little concerned when we made a selection from a drop-down menu that contained a list of folder names; PixName opened an empty dialog box and then froze, and we had to use the task manager to terminate it. Overall, PixName wasn't awful, but there are other programs that perform the same tasks and do so in a more elegant manner.
PixName comes as ZIP file. It installs and uninstalls without issues.
