  Pros

  shrinks down JPEG files to the maximum resolution you choose. has batch option. easy to install and use. fast. remembers the folder you are in. creates new files in a temporary directory, so it does not harm your originals.

  Cons

  batch mode does an entire folder -- you can't leave any out, but i don't want to anyway. does not do sub-folders

  this free program does exactly what i wanted -- it shrinks down JPEG files to the maximum resolution you choose. the batch option is well-hidden from people who don't know how to click on the 'photos' menu; other people will find it easily. easy to install and use. fast. remembers the folder you are in. creates new files in a temporary directory, so it does not harm your originals. perfect for anyone who just wants to save disk space (but i save the originals on CD in case i want to print anything.)

  just what I needed to quickly and easily compress folders of holiday pics before transferring them either online, to friends or to digital picture frames.

  It doesn't do much else, but that's all I wanted (that's not really a con...)

  More things wrong with the user interface than I can be bothered to list. Despite the title the "batch" UI is well hidden. Options consist solely of "maximum width" and "maximum height". What the program seems to do is to resample the images so their dimensions fit within the specified maximums. It says "compression" but it's not clear whether the JPEG compression quality parameter is adjusted; there's certainly no user option for it. Throws an error if you attempt to cancel a run. Pretty much a waste of disk space.
