Phone Amego for Mac sits on your menu bar and interacts with your phone for a number of functions, monitoring and controlling calls, blocking unwanted callers, doing Web reverse lookups, and setting calendars. It works well and proves useful, but doesn't support Wi-Fi.

Pros

Intuitive interface: Configuring Phone Amego for Mac does not take long. Everything is clearly presented on the application's different panes. Setting your communication logging parameters, for instance, is as easy as ticking check boxes.

Works with AppleScript: You can use AppleScript to automate your interaction with connected phones, which means you can place calls with fewer clicks, reject unwanted calls, or direct a call to your voicemail. You can also use AppleScript to pause your music player as you answer a call. What's more, if you're running a business, this software can automate the order-taking process or filter prank and undesirable callers.

Integration with other utilities: You can use this application in conjunction with utilities such as Push Dialer, LaunchBar, PopClip, Alfred App, and Quicksilver. Quicksilver integration, for example, means you can quickly search a Mac contact and call or send them a file. In addition, this app also supports different phone types, as well as Skype and Google Voice.

Cons

Not accessible via Wi-Fi: Because it uses Bluetooth to connect to a computer, it's not too power-consuming, as if it would be if it used Wi-Fi. However, it would be better if this application operated on Wi-Fi as well, as most phone users have their Wi-Fi on.

Bottom Line

Phone Amego offers you a viable way to handle mobile phone communication through your Mac, thus improving your overall productivity and, if you are a small business owner, customer relationship management. It has an extensive range of features and functions, but it's not that difficult to configure. What may deter you from using it, though, is that it's not compatible with Wi-Fi and comes with a price tag.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Phone Amego for Mac 1.4.29.
