Reliable VOIP client
megacnet2010- Pros
- Just works
- Cons
- The interface is overloaded for me
- Summary
- Thanks for this tool, saves lots of phone bills )
Very, very poor
Full Score- Pros
- Cons
- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Appalling customer service. All Emails remained unanswered even after sending them to three different addresses regarding BUYING the commercial version. Terrible GUI - about as un-Mac-like as possible. It has its own address book which is extremely rudimentary (can't sort or change the order) No integration with Apple's Address Book Very difficult to set up. Will Vonage upgrade to this version? A much better option is iSoftPhone - lovely iPhone-like interface and a real Mac app - but quite expensive

Great...if you're not using Leopard

Crashes on Intel-based Macs
Thorsten Heit- Pros
- Cons
- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
What I like:

The program doesn't cost anything, and after you get used to it it works quite well.

What I don't like:

The developers ignored all guidelines for Mac programs: X-Lite uses its own GUI that absolutely doesn't fit into the Mac desktop.

It uses its own address book instead of the OS X one that I would prefer.

On my MacBook Pro the program directly crashes when a phone call is terminated. It also crashes when you just start and then terminate it.

It took me some time to configure it until I was able to start my first phone call.

If I want to use a Bluetooth headset, I have to activate it in the system preferences first (under audio settings, input and output) before I start X-Lite - I haven't found out how I can tell X-Lite to use a certain device for audio in- and output.

BTW: X-Lite is not a universal binary, but works more or less under Rosetta (see above). There's already a version 3 available for Windows, but not for Mac (yet).
Best softphone for OS X
NLBigs- Pros
- Cons
- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Sure.. the interface takes some getting used to, but feature-wise this is the best softphone for Mac OS X. I've been using this for a month, calling to various people using SIPPhone.com and my own SIP proxy and it works great. The CPU usage is low and it plays nice with the sleep function on my Powerbook. Phonebook and password saving works fine here, by the way.
Ugly, but it works
Gib Henry- Pros
- Cons
- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The interface is at best ugly, confusing, un-Mac-like and counter-intuitive. Nonetheless, once you figure it out, it works great. It DOES save log-in information and phonebook info, you just have to figure it out. Read the manual on the publisher's website (it's Unix, not a Mac application, so you DO have to read the manual!).
works fine
Yoolius- Pros
- Cons
- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
just updated to new version. Was easy - no problems. Seems to work as should be. If only the sound quality was better. I'll use skype more often as it seems to deliver better results (even if it supports outgoing calls to normal phones only and lacks incoming calls from normal phones).
L@cking
svetgladv- Pros
- Cons
- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I found the pdf manual and read it from start to finish. It's specific to Win so about 1/3 of it wasn't even close to the Mac version. Can't get it working. Obscure Preference settings. - And honestly, when you get a message to "Contact your network administrator" - come on, WE ARE THE ADMIN's! I'd love to push problems like this off on someone else.
