We like Papercuts. Not the kind that you get on your finger, the kind that goes in your computer: the Google Chrome Extension formerly known as ChromeCuts. It's a handy little add-on that lets you save notes on a toolbar menu for quick and easy access. It's handy for jotting things down, but you can also use it to store snippets of text, such as your street address, that you're constantly typing out in full. Papercuts can save time and keystrokes by entering such common details quickly and easily. It supports syncing between two PCs, too, which can keep users in sync between work and home, desktop and laptop, or his and hers.

When we downloaded and installed ChromeCuts, the software advised us that Papercuts was available and asked if we wanted to upgrade. Papercuts installed alongside ChromeCuts instead of over it; we removed ChromeCuts since it doesn't do anything that Papercuts doesn't and lacks Papercuts' subsequent updates. The Papercuts icon resides with other Chrome extension icons at the far right end of the toolbar; clicking it calls up the Papercuts interface, a narrow dialog that expands as you add notes. We clicked Add a Note, and an expandable note with a text-entry field and label field appeared. We entered a label and a brief note and then added several more notes. Arrows let us move notes up or down in the listing, and a Copy icon copied the note text to the system clipboard with a click, allowing us to quickly paste the contents without having to highlight, copy, and so on. Clicking the X on any note deleted the note, yet Papercuts also offered to cut the deleted items. The extension has an undo option as well. An Options button accesses the program's settings from the interface. A slider let us alter the width of the Papercuts interface, change the background color, and specify some options. There's also a tool tip that described shortcuts and other useful features in Papercuts. We clicked the Notebook button, and Papercuts opened a larger interface for entering notes as well as a share bar with links for Facebook, Twitter, Buzz, and other sites.

Papercuts is a nifty little note-keeping extension that adds a useful and much-needed capability to Google's free Web browser. It definitely makes the cut.
