PalaceChat 4 is a free Visual Chat Software, that allows people to connect to more than 800 different chat servers. It offers higher resolution chat rooms, the user can wear avatars and make and customize their own, play games and allows you to draw in the rooms and do special effects with scripting. And meet new people everyday. For the old 'The Palace' users, PalaceChat 4 is the new software fully compatible with 'The Palace' server, Capable of higher quality and amazing new content and more to come.
I feel this is the best chat program EXCEPT for.......
Chatty22
Pros
A fun way to chat with others! There are background pics that makes you feel like you are away from the Internet even though you are still on the Internet. Then the avatars and sounds makes it fun, too. A lot of the palaces you don't have to worry about those pesky ads, too!
Cons
I think this part of the publisher's description is not accurate: "For the old 'The Palace' users, PalaceChat 4 is the new software fully compatible with 'The Palace' server,..."
I feel it's inaccurate because when using the older version The Palace had prop control for the palace owners that wanted to use it which was especially great for those that had kids around while parents chatted as they would not have to worry about their kids or their self seeing naked people, naked avatars, offensive pics, as the owners could set prop control and not allowed those kinds of avatars! In PalaceChat while the maker did a great job updating it making it even better EXCEPT it is not fully compatible with The Palace prop control feature because prop control does not work correctly with PalaceChat. This might be a small thing to some people but to those that want to visit palaces without worry of seeing what they would deem inappropriate avatars or offensive pics then prop control is needed.
Summary
I think the publisher should not advertise PalaceChat as "fully compatible" with The palace when it's not for whatever reason if something does not work with PalaceChat that did work with The Palace then it's not "fully" compatible!! I know in one of the comments about this at their support site it was mentioned over 3 months ago they would work on a fix for this but as of now they still have not.
Regardless if one palace or a dozen palaces want to use it they should have prop control in PalaceChat where it does not just flash a unapproved avatar on then take it off (as that kinda defeats the purpose) but they should have it in PalaceChat the same as they had in The Palace where ALL avatars/props will NOT show up any at all unless FIRST approved by the palace owner/owners.
Hopefully they will fix this or at least stop saying it's fully compatible until they do!
Simply brilliant and simple!
lunability
Pros
The biggest advantage of this platform that it allows for absolute freedom, the only limit is your skill set and your imagination! The simple and flowing philosophy and UI quickly make you feel comfortable while using the software! The scripting feature is absolutely stunning and relatively easy to learn if you have some experience with programming or scripting. Creating avatars is as simple as drag-and-dropping an image into the interface! The avatars consist of nine layers, so which allows for a large variety of avatars, specially since the layers can be "exported" as one layer and then reused with other layers! The content can be so vivid and interactive.
Cons
The only disadvantage I could really fixate upon is that for you to have your own chat server, you need to buy it from a palace hosting service (there are a few, I think). To create interactive and animated content it is mandatory you know the scripting language (and for beginners it can be quite a big bite to chew on), but anyone with some past programming experience shouldn't have a problem learning it, and there are a few good, extensive tutorials on it.
Summary
The software is great, because it allows for users to create their own universe. it is easy to create rich content for it and the avatars system is really fun to play with (it also has an in-app image editor for avatars and props [what avatars are essentially made of] which is easy enough to use). All in all, it is a great piece of software and it has enormous potential! However, to create your own universe you need to pay a small fee (the price varies depending on what you need), but the software itself is free! There are however Palace server out there, the most notable I found was "Aperitio" which centres around Harry Potter role-play, and they have an excellent combination of scripting, graphics and avatars!
