Writer gets the job done if you need a free, offline word processor without the bloat. It's part of the Apache OpenOffice suite, so it's lightweight and easy to pick up, especially if you're used to older software.

  • Pros

    • Free to use; no subscription required | Works offline; no internet needed | Handles basic formatting with no learning curve | Good for privacy-minded users who want local file control

  • Cons

    • Interface looks straight out of the '90s | Collaboration features are nonexistent | Compatibility with modern Office formats is spotty | Honestly, there are better free options now
