Developer’s Description

Analyze the wave data time series collected by sensors in open body of water using Matlab/Octave.

Oceanlyz is a Matlab/GNU Octave toolbox for analyzing measured coastal and ocean wave data. A Series of Matlab functions are presented in this toolbox which are developed in order to analyze wave data measured either in the field (i.e. ocean, sea, lake, or coastal area) or in a laboratory. This toolbox is capable of analyzing data measured by a wave gauge, wave logger, wave staff, ADV or any other instrument used for data collections. Although this toolbox developed for ocean/sea waves, it might be used to analyze other types of wave data.

List of selected applications for this toolbox: Calculates wave properties from field/lab measured data. Uses spectral analysis and zero-crossing method for wave analyzing. Partitions wave spectra and separates wind-sea and swell data. Corrects pressure data that read by a pressure sensor to account for pressure attenuation in depth. Applies diagnostic Tail. List of selected parameters that can be calculated with this toolbox: Zero-Moment Wave Height; Sea/Swell Wave Height; Significant Wave Height; Mean Wave Height; Wave Power Spectral Density; Peak Wave Frequency; Peak Wave Period; Peak Sea/Swell Period; Mean Wave Period; Significant Wave Period.
