Nutritional information is becoming more and more important as people become more conscious of what they're putting into their bodies. Nutrition Facts is a simple program that contains nutritional information for more than 7,500 foods. It's definitely not the most comprehensive option available for accessing nutritional information, but it's not bad.

The program's interface is plain and intuitive. You enter the name of a food into a search box and the program returns a list of possibilities. Click on one and the nutritional information is displayed in a pane on the right. In addition to the nutritional basics, there's also detailed information about vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids. The program fared well with basic, unprocessed foods, and it contains some name-brand items, but it doesn't contain a fraction of the foods that are commonly available these days. It's particularly lacking when it comes to natural, organic, and ethnic foods. This wouldn't be as much of a drawback if you could add your own items to the database, but Nutrition Facts doesn't have that feature. We also question why anyone would use a program like this when there is so much more nutritional information available from different sources on the Internet. Still, if you need a nutritional database that can be accessed offline, Nutrition Facts isn't a bad choice. It's easy to use, and while it doesn't have a Help file per se, its online FAQ answers any potential questions.

Pretty program, but useless

The program gives you NOTHING the US Dept of Ag doesn't give without installing anything. It doesn't even give you complete information that is otherwise available. It has ZERO ability to add missing items to the database.

Sent the following suggestions to the programmer ... and he REALLY didn't care: "What would make it great is to have it totally customizable, allowing you to add ingredients that you don't have. For example I use most non-processed, non-processed foods. To make low carb/ gluten free dishes, I use all natural xanthan gum, organic stevia rather than useless starches and chemical sweeteners. Almond and Coconut flour rather than wheat flour. I also use almond milk rather than whole milk. 1. Not ONE SINGLE substitute listed above are found in your data-base ... and I saw no way to add or modify it. 2. Since I and MANY others are sensitive to gluten, the proteins needs to be broken down also ... like the vitamins, minerals and fatty acids. I need to know which proteins are in it. 3. You also NEED to be analyze your own recipe and able to add them to the data-base. 4. You also need to print a comparison on two different recipes. As you can plainly see, the program is totally useless to people like myself."

This program is compatable with Window 7. I thought it was great, I enter a lot of recipes in my recipe program, and quite often I need to enter new ingredients. This gives me good information to enter.

I wish there were more ingredients, but with time, I am sure there will be.

I liked getting the nutritional information before I get to the store so that I can make better purchasing decisions.

I found it somewhat limited on brands but I suspect that the database will grow over time.

Nutrition Facts is just that. I is good when other programs only do recipes and not a cup of celery etc. I like it a lot as it is free and is very useful
