• Support, good luck

  lkapnerJuly 30, 2014

  Pros

  It backs up files

  Cons

-Recovery is slow and poorly implemented compared to BESR -Good luck getting support on the phone, on hold over an hour on my last attempt with the same annoying tune playing, ringing, then back to annoying tune, hung up after 65 minutes without an answer -Imaging a workstation to dis-similar hardware did not work, went back to Acronis, works well every time - DO NOT install CMC on a 64 bit IIS installation, especially on an exchange server, you will destroy OWA. Converts IIS to 32 bit and OWA will become dysfunctional. Have yet to get v16 to work, v15 installed and worked out of the box, an upgrade to 16 has failed on every server with the IIS installation. Prompting the unanswered calls to tech support.

  Summary

A lot of claims to be better than the big boys, but it really is not. You get what you pay for.

• More data in half the time, no errors or warnings

  blouthnewsOctober 7, 2013

  Pros

We're now backing up (based on our last metrics) • 250G more data than before • In less than half the time • No warnings or errors, unlike before • Server performance during backups is much better • Tech support is very responsive • And now we have granular backup of Exchange data Licensing is among the simplest. They do not force you into a perpetual maintenance subscription. You can lapse and still own the product. You can renew support/upgrades at any time without a penalty.

  Cons

  1) Needs local data staging area. But in Q4 of 2013 they plan to offer direct streaming to backup target. 2) No granular file restore of HyperV VMs. This is also on the list to be addressed early in 2014 *3) Might be nice to offer a licensing option that covered the physical server, all VMs (already offered) plus include licenses for all of the advanced agents like Exchange, SQL, etc. That way one license would cover everything on the physical server. But to be fair Symantec Backup Exec doesn't offer this. And I'm not sure Acronis, CA, or even Microsoft Data Protection Manager do either.

  Summary

Fast, reliable, low footprint, low resources, simple, and amazingly affordable. Not enterprise level but offers many enterprise features. In time they might start to rival some of the larger/expensive options. Any other backup software that offers these features will cost many times more money.

• Inexpensive, intuitive all-in-one backup solution

  Cristian-VictorAugust 29, 2013

  Pros

  - easy to install and to use - inexpensive - stable - rich in features - exceptional as a standalone small business backup server - contains the "good" features of ntbackup - good documentation, not like you would need it

  Cons

  - didn't find any worth mentioning

  Summary

• Best value for business users.

  csw1234April 14, 2013

  Pros

  - entry-level pricing - rich feature set

  Cons

  - pay to play upgrading that nickel and dimes you - minimal support

  Summary

Overall this is a great product that is hampered by the developers constant need to get every cent possible from the customer-base. If your trial works without a problem, you'll find the expansive feature set a blessing compared to significantly more expensive offerings from competitors. (ie. Symantec) If it eventually doesn't work down the road due to a new OS or some sort of incompatibility, you'll find that the version will be outdated. The only option at that point is to pay for support or get a newer version that comes with support. If the developer offered a better upgrade-cycle and support, then this would be a five-star product.

• After 9 Months of use, definitely best in class

  jusaynJanuary 9, 2013

  Pros

Our organization was able execute differential backups create a disaster recovery dvd and get SQL and Exchange support for our server environment. No major hiccups. GUI made everything simple as it's the same tree drop down checkbox theme we're used to. Haven't called in but we have unlimited phone and email support but other people have used support I haven't heard complaints(when dealing with technology no complaints is amazing!). Would definitely recommend the software. Best value and most features I've seen.

  Cons

Creating Disaster recovery DVD took a second to figure out until I found the support video.

  Summary

I don't understand how other backup software charges so much and have less features then NovaBackup. It just works for business and I'm getting ready to install it at home too, so I'll let you know how that goes.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Jan 9, 2013<p/>We are using version 14.1 now which has a much better wizard and seems to be significantly faster than version 12 so this review is for our upgrade to their latest version 14 that we are now using.

• Totally worthless program. Popup continually annoy etc

  cheneydOctober 3, 2010

  Pros

This was a highly rated program, which is why I purchased it. It was reported as easy to setup.

  Cons

Worthless program that is too rigid in its setup and Novastar support was not available. Don't waste your money.

• bad copy, terrible support

  rileysmom17August 22, 2010

  Pros

  Don't like anything yet.

  Cons

Purchased 2 weeks ago, tech support demanding $30 fee for assistance.

  Summary

The software got rave reviews on various sites, particularly for user friendliness. Skip that, they must have been bribed. There is a "simple" view which does not allow simple scheduling. Then there is an advanced view which also does not allow simple scheduling. The help is useless. The software does not give a pop-up alert if the storage media is full. This is a BIG problem since currently when I use "simple view" and "refresh backup" or "advanced view" and "schedule incremental backup" what I get is SEVEN complete backups and a partial backup and then my storage media is full. The only process that works is using "backup" (ie the first backup) on the simple view page - then I get just one copy. So I called tech support, was told to email them, and then got a reply stating that I had to pay the support fee although I purchased the software 8/5 and today is 8/23. Like, less than 30 days, right? And hey, do you think I might have a bad copy here? Did you even read the problem? These people do NOT deserve your money. I was kind of suspicious when all the on-line reviews were so uniformly ravingly positive (like maybe novastor was throwing some nice parties) and I guess I was right.

• Woww...Full Server Backup incl. SQL/Exchange only 300$

  StefanTOApril 23, 2010

  Pros

Gives me the power to save my small business - don´t need to care about data loss. I use DR &#38; online Backup with a local provider. Best product experience I have ever had with a Backup Solution.

  Cons

None - even the support works good.
