The latest version of Nomad News also decodes yEnc encoded postings (along with all other encoding methods like MIME, UU).

Not very stable

Pros
It's free; has a nice little wizard that walks you through setting up an account for the first time.
Cons
I found the interface a bit confusing, but I would've stuck with it for a while if it hadn't been for the stability issues. After the program crashed on me for the third time in a row for no obvious reason, I gave up (I'm running Windows 98SE). <p> <p>After trying out a few of the free newsreaders, I've come to the conclusion that nothing really comes close to the Agent newsreader on the Windows platform at least. I have an older version of Agent but unfortunately it doesn't support yEnc, making it next to useless for binaries. Unfortunately, Forte won't let me upgrade to the newest version, so I'll have to buy it if I want yEnc support. I'm not sure if it's worth it to me.

Pros
First, It's freeware. They used to charge for it a number of years ago. <p> <p>The multiple connections really speeds up downloads, especially with servers that limit per connection but allow multiple connecitons. <p> <p>The "thumnail viewer" is also really handy. If you are viewing a picture group, it displays a thumnail size of the image as it's downloading, for each connection. No more flipping through screens to see what is downloading. You can abort connections in the middle of a download and pre-download group headers.
Cons
The code hasn't been updated in a number of years (not that it is necessarily needed), though yenc was included in the 2.10 release. <p> <p>From the server window, when selecting multiple groups to download, it only downloads one group at a time. The multi-connection download only works within a newsgroup window.
