This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
My G5 with my 828mkII and Logic 6.2.1 is USELESS. I get "core audio driver reported error 727" and no output. Motu tech support has been terrible. I don't think they have a clue. Found another guy on unicornation.com with the same problem, they haven't helped him either. I highly recommend anyone with a G5 stay AWAY from MOTU products until they get this sorted out. I've spent WAY too much money on my rig to have it not work at all, and without an apology or even a suggetion I haven't tried 20 times already.
Still having the same issue

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I had my 828mkII working for a few weeks, but now it has gone back to the same problem again. Whenever anything tries to use audio, the kernel process starts using half my CPU and never ever finishes what it's "doing". There's no way to shut down or restart, cause the kernel process won't exit, and you certainly can't ask it to kill itself, so I have to *reset* the computer.
This is a joke. I have had this problem come up three times now, and each time I've had to reinstall the entire friggin OS and install all the updates again, because I can't figure out what causes the problem or how to fix it, and apparently MOTU can't either, cause several "updates" later, nothing has improved.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, rebooting in between each step. I've deleted every possible related preference file. I've uninstalled *other* audio-related software, even though it worked fine with the 828 before. I've done everything I can think of (and I've been using and fixing Macs for 15 years now), and have had no luck at all.
Since I'm not the only person who has reported these problems, I blame the problem on poor QA on the drivers by MOTU. Get your act together guys. This is a joke, but I'm not laughing.
I'll tell you the one thing that I still love about the 828mkII though -- even while the useless OS X drivers fail me again and again, the 828 itself continues to function beautifully as a standalone mixer. So at least some of my studio works.
One small problem

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Is it just me or is everyone else downloading the 1.01 driver too??
Maybe its Safari but I thought the new driver killed my interface when it wouldnt recognize.
Went and redownloaded it from MOTU and noticed the file from Version Tracker was 2.3MB while the MOTU one was 4MB and has the newer icon that the 828MKII installers have.
The installers also wouldnt delete the older 1.01 drivers either. Had to do some command line sudo rm action..
Now its all working.. Hope they fixed my one issue, a nasty squeal that pops up sometimes when using it for system sound.
Other than that, Logic is still working great!!
Works just fine

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Well the driver has only been out for about 9 days to get technical now..
Not sure if this is the same driver that comes on the cd with the interface or not.
Regardless both have done exactly what theyre supposed to do.
Have you contacted motu tech support yet?
Its obvious there is something wrong as almost all of us at the Logic, MOTU, and OSXAudio forums are all i love with our interfaces..
Try techsupport@motu.com

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've used it with Logic 6.1 and Reason 2.5... works perfectly so far. Don't blame MOTU because some consumer level audio app doesn't take full advantage of the 828mkII's features.
This reasonably priced interface gives you 10 analog inputs, with another 8 available via ADAT port, and S/PDIF in/out. Sound quality is great, and the driver seems stable.
