MiniTool Photo Recovery helps you find and recover photos lost from your computer, digital camera, memory card, or other external drive. With thorough scanning features and an intuitive interface, this app can have your photos back to you in one piece, regardless of how you lost them.

Pros

Filtering and targeting: If you know ahead of time anything about the file types of the image files you're searching for, you can use that information to target your scans before that even begins. This results in quicker scans and more relevant results. You can also filter results after the fact by either filename or extension -- or by file size by entering a range.

Ongoing access: Previous scans remain available for reloading through the app, so if you realize there's something you want to go back and find on a device you've scanned before, you don't have to start a brand new scan over again. This saves lots of time and lets you get the results you're looking for quickly.

Cons

No Help link: There is a nice User Guide that goes with this app, but you'd never know it, if you were looking for a link to it from the app. In fact, the only way to access this guide is to go to the product page directly and follow a link from there, which you might not think to do.

Bottom Line

MiniTool Photo Recovery is a good tool for finding and restoring lost photos from a variety of devices through your Windows computer. It includes a nice set of filtering and targeting features designed to cut down on your scanning and sorting time, and the ability to reload old scans is a nice touch as well. This program is completely free for personal use.

Pros
None. It doesn't recover lost pix/files, it grabs ALL your pix.
Cons
After 1 hour and 45 minutes it "found" 25+ thousand" pix. Which is ridiculous. What it did was search for EVERY jpeg on my machine. I thought it would be intuitive, but apparently not. There is no other setting other than picture format or video/music if that's what you are looking for. It is a waste of time. Oh and by the way? It is IDENTICAL TO WONDERSHARE'S VERSION. Same graphics, same windows etc. Not worth the time. DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT.
Summary
Waste of time. Almost 2 hours for NOTHING!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.
Good for some, I'm sure, but useless for me.

Pros
Looks fairly intuitive and found an amazing number of files on my hard drive going back years.
Cons
I wanted to recover some images I deleted from my camera. My computer doesn't have a card reader - I transfer images by connecting the camera to the computer via a USB lead - so I needed a programme that could read directly from the card in my camera. This tool claimed to do just that. Sadly it fails at the first hurdle since it doesn't "see" my camera. My computer recognises it OK as an external drive, so why can't this software?

Pros
I like the way it separates the recovered files into folders based on file type: .jpg, .png, .gif, etc. It also makes smaller folders inside those that hold up to 300 photos each, making it easier to search for and manage the recovered files.
Cons
When the program was done, none of the 'recovered' pictures was viewable. Irfanview kept giving me the error: "Can't read file header. Unknown file format, empty/damaged file" for all file types. Windows Photo Viewer gave the error: "...the file appears to be damaged, corrupted, or too large."
Summary
While the program was very user-friendly, it was unable to recover a single one of my accidentally-deleted files in a usable format. I will continue searching for a product that will work.

Pros
Made easy work of recovering files (including photos and videos) from an accidentally formatted SD card. Very easy to understand and use (I read nothing just jumped in and went to it) It's 100% FREE, there are no catches and it recovered everything!!!

None...after all it is truly FREE
Summary
After my eleven year old came to me crying that she accidentally formatted the SD card in her camera, which had pictures of her one year old nieces birthday party and a trip to SeaWorld...it was Dad to the rescue, along with a LOT of help from MiniTool Photo Recovery. After previously trying two other so-called "free" programs (one which recovered absolutely nothing and two that only recovered a third of what she had-you had to pay for the rest, which I did not do), I stumbled across this nifty little program. It does not ask for anything in return (donations are accepted but not required) other then a little positive feedback.

The only con I found was no preview of the picture recovered
Summary
I accidentally formatted my SD card before downloading the pictures to my computer. IUWEShare was unable to recover anything even though it found all the files and I paid $40 for full activation. CardRecovery Pro also saw all the pictures but was only able to recover 53 of the images (with changed filenames) evem after paying $60 for the fully registered program. MiniTool Photo Recovery FREE recovered ALL 1015 images form my SD card.

Pros
This handy program recovered over 300 files I had accidently deleted from my camera's SD card. It was extremely easy to use and took only a few minutes to do the job. It preserved the EXIF data as well. I highly recommend it, and the price is right.
Cons
I can not think of any flaws in this great product.
