Improves the project planning process by generating project plans.

The Visio WBS Modeler is intended to improve the project planning process by giving the opportunity to generate Project Plans from a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) using a graphical representation of elements. A WBS structure is a hierarchical representation of the elements and sub-elements in a project. The WBS Modeler can either be used to visualize and edit an existing project plan or to create a new project plan in Microsoft Office Visio 2007 Professional and then export it to Microsoft Office Project (2003+) to carry out the next planning steps. The Application enables effective integration of Visio with Microsoft Office Project. It provides an approach to visually and graphically create, edit and modify project plans using Visio. The WBS Modeler offers the ability to manage project elements in a graphical view, as well as offering functionality to layout a WBS in Visio. The WBS can be exported back to Microsoft Office Project into a new project plan. It is also possible to update an existing plan.

Quirky and klunky. Not useful for real project mgmt.

Pros
Fine if you use the tool to demonstrate what a Work Breakdown Structure is. The tree structure is modestly functional. That's about it.
Cons
Extremely quirky to use. For instance, if you move an object left/right/down/up and then decide to add another object, the SW resets the position of the ones you moved and you land up having to move them again. You can't just drag things around. As another example, when right clicking on an object to bring up the aux menu it many times just blinks at you. And then sometimes when you re-right click on it, it brings up the property sheet instead. It's also buggy. I apparently did something that causes it to not be able to export to MS Project. When I export, I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error (like that's useful). I call this a bug because there is obviously something wrong with my diagram but nothing is highlighted or otherwise pointed to that will help me fix the problem.
Summary
Don't waste your time with this software unless all you want to do with it is demonstrate what a Work Breakdown Structure looks like (in very simplistic way). If your a serious project manager, this user unfriendly tool will frustrate you more than it helps.
