Medved Quote Tracker provides tons of stock market information in one free package. While that package isn't the best looking of its kind, it more than makes up for any unattractiveness with enough raw data to satisfy the desktop day trader.

Medved Quote Tracker's interface is cramped and bland, featuring a gray-on-white color scheme that isn't very kind on the eyes. The design squeezes a large collection of commands into a tiny space. Fortunately, a brief trip to the Help file soon cleared things up. We also don't like the way its online quote feature requires you to be a customer of a paid service: only the most obscure online quote services are free. However, once we'd found a suitable source, we were able to track the market value and price of specific stocks within any one of the dozens of worldwide markets the program can access. This is a fine way to keep an eye on prices, but the program didn't really become special until we discovered its extra features. By providing links to online research sources and a wide variety of customizable charts and graphs, Medved Quote Tracker offers much more than a simple stock tracker. What it lacks in the layout department, it makes up in functions and features that set it apart from the crowd.

Medved Quote Tracker is freeware. It installs desktop icons without permission and leaves folders behind after uninstalling. Despite its poor graphic design, it's quite a helpful stock tool. We recommend it.

Pros
Free to inexpensive. Easy to use with a variety of data sources including most brokerages so you get data stream if you are a customer. Gives you excellent live picture of your stock and associated info and action links on your portfolio.
Cons
Have not tried alternatives recently, so can not say. However, none that I have found.

Pros
The most comprehensive securities program for tracking, research, portfolio management, trading and much, much more.There is nothing else like it See below for more info.
Cons
It works without cost if you have a TD Ameritrade account.It will work with most other broker's feeds but you must pay a continuing fee. I opened an Ameritrade account with $100 just to be able to continue to use this program.
Summary
Real time stock quotes. Muiltiple portfolio screens fully customizable. Multiple switchable views. Shows huge amount of data including gains. losses, stock gains, losses by today and total to date, and totals for portfolio. Has research, charts, alerts. and much, much more. This is a huge program highly recommended. I have used it for 15 years. There is nothing that compares with it that I know about. A must is you wish to keep track of your securities in real time during the trading day.

Was unable to use due to the fact that the software requires you to either have or open an account with TD Ameritrade, or pay a monthly subscription fee.
Cons
This is categorized here on Cnet downloads as being free. It is only free for those who open or already have an account with TD Ameritrade.
Summary
This should not be in the free category. In fact, you don't find out about the subscription fee until you install the software. You must pay a subscription fee if you don't have a TD Ameritrade account, don't want to open a TD Ameritrade account or have an account with any other US broker. The software probably works well, however.

Pros
I find the fact that I can keep two dozen small real-time charts open at the same time to be critical and noone else seem to be able to do this. Also like the price trend color shades in the charts to let me know sentiment.
Cons
Way too many options - although this is not really bad. Doesn't play nice with Windows. Difficult to share data amongst PCs. None of these are even close to being big enough to outweigh the benefits of this App.
Summary
This is a great piece of code. I've been using it for years now. Paid for it until it became a bit overpriced and joined TD Ameritrade just to keep using it. I trade with ETrade and their three tools are significantly inferior. Fidelity's Java stuff is equally ineffective. Only QT presents the information I need in the way I want so that I can trade comfortably without wondering if I have the right information.
This is an exceptional product.

Pros
Superb trading platform. Great charts with well over 100 indicators. As a TD Ameritrade client, this product is free. In any case, it is free with the acceptance of a banner ad. Incredibly good client support. Can't say enough positves.
Cons
I would like to see them develop their own screener and not use Advanced Analyzer (another TD Ameritrade product).

Pros
trade directly from program, options chain, fonts and look configurable, connection with many brokers (for streaming/trading). Best of all - FREE !!!

nothing. This program can do it all.

I use this all the time for many years. It can do anything and it's totally configurable to needs to anyone. Can change fonts, add/remove colums, trade (connection with the broker), options chains, etc. You can't buy a more powerful tool - period.
