This hefty medical-teaching tool assists users in appropriately administering anesthesia through simulation, but is marred by a five-minute run trial. MEDIQ Anaesthesia Simulator includes 20 medical cases with a variety of patient types and conditions. The simulation begins with an overview of the case including vital statistics, potential risks, and other preoperative information. You can go at your own pace as you move through the simulation selecting the appropriate premedication and equipment. Once in the operating theater, you'll see the patient on the table flanked by monitors for the patient's vital statistics and status. You'll need to administer the appropriate drugs and, as prompted by the doctor, respond throughout the procedure. The trial version only permits five-minute sessions, which isn't long enough to complete a case. Despite the stingy demo restrictions, MEDIQ Anaesthesia is a well-designed simulation program appropriate for any health-care professional.

The similarities between anaesthesia and aviation are quite obvious. Although flight simulators have been important for many decades simulation of anaesthesia has only attracted interest in the last few years. Anaesthesia Simulator is a low budget alternative for theoretical anaesthesia training. It is currently used as a teaching aid in several of Sweden s University Teaching Hospitals. Although primarily aimed at anaesthetic trainees it may also be of interest to surgeons in training, nurses working in anaesthesia and intensive care environments, ambulance paramedics and medical students. It can be used by the individual student and can also form the basis for a tutorial. It emphasizes the basic physiological and pharmacological principles that underpin the clinical practice of anaesthesia. Version 4.3.6 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
