The Agaaz:

Singing , eulogizing and reveling in the pristine glory the Punjabi folk music and Sufiana kalaams during her adolescent phase of life, prodigious Mamta stamped her versatility as a multitalented vocalist and Kathak danseuse in a very short span. Mamta was exposed to the rudiments of classical music at the tender age of 6 by her maternal grandfather S. Balwant Singh Sehgal (Nanaguru) and later to Ghazal, Sufiana and lighter genres by her elder brother Gulshan Tandon. But her blessed tutelage under Pandit Shanker Mishra and Dr Arun Mishra of Indore gharana not only awakened and transformed her dormant abilities into fruitful artistic creations but also embellished her aesthetic potential through the rigorous riyaaz which invariably empowers her to illuminate the horizons of melody of compositions of all vocal musical genres with consummate ease. She attained proficiency in Khyal , Tappa and Thumri gayan in classical and literary poetry Ghazal, Sufiana and cultivated her musical traits to embellish Western fusion with Indian Classical music.

As ordained, the vivacious and versatile Mamta kept achieving excellence in the realm of folk, classical and Sufiana music in academics and performances. She was rightly hailed as a golden girl at the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, winning six gold and silver medals each in various national music competitions for her university. She also won the HRD ministry (Govt. of India)s prestigious scholarship.
